Lisa Faulkner, 49, has shared a behind-the-scenes insight into the moment This Morning was thrown into chaos when her husband and MasterChef host John Torode, 56, set a fire in their kitchen. John had been busy filming a cooking segment for the ITV show during the first coronavirus lockdown last year, when his tea towel burst into flames on air due to a risky blunder.
Speaking out on her other half’s mishap in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, actress and chef Lisa revealed she was first alerted to the issue when the smoke alarm went off.
She recalled: “I was upstairs, I just sat upstairs because he was filming downstairs.”
Lisa added: “When you’re in the kitchen and you’ve got homeschooling going on, you’ve got kids in the house, and it’s your working kitchen, it is really difficult when someone is filming in the kitchen.
“And so I was banished upstairs,” the star quipped.
However, Lisa didn’t realise the full extent of the damage until John had finished filming.
She continued: “And then I heard the smoke alarm go off, but I didn’t realise until after the event that anything had happened, which was quite funny.
“I just completely left him to it, I just thought, ‘You carry on in the kitchen so that I can get down there and make lunch’.
“He didn’t lose his cool either, he’s always so calm,” Lisa admitted.
Although John remained calm throughout, This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were less relaxed when they spotted the flames.
John caused concern from the hosts when he put a tea towel down on his gas hob, causing the fabric to set alight.
“Fire! Fire, John! Behind you,” Holly shouted.
Phillip joined in, exclaiming: “Cooker! Your towel’s on fire!

“Behind you, John, you’re on fire!”
Fortunately, John quickly extinguished the flames and continued with his segment on the show.
Lisa empathised with John’s live TV error, as she reflected on her own mishaps in the kitchen.
She recalled an awkward moment she suffered on her and John’s self-titled ITV show, John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen.
Lisa said: “On John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen , on the last show, we were making cocktails.
“Now, cocktails are not my strongest point, as in I don’t have the best luck.”
She explained: “I had to do it in a cocktail shaker, and the cocktail shaker broke, the ice went everywhere.
“We put the outtakes on Instagram, and it’s very funny!”
