Love Island’s Amber Gill’s mum reveals Michael Griffiths is ‘genuine’ and ‘gets’ her daughter and she wants couple to go all the way on dating show – EXCLUSIVE

Amber Gill and Michael Griffiths are coupled up in the Love Island villa and are becoming a firm favourite with fans.

Amber’s mum Vanessa Waugh, 47, who works in recruitment and resourcing, revealed to OK! magazine that Michael ‘gets’ her daughter.

She said of firefighter Michael in a new interview: “He gets her personality. It’s lovely to see it blossoming.

“He’s so genuine so I can definitely see the attraction there.”

When Amber and Michael finally got to enjoy their first date while in the villa, Amber told Michael that he would have to move from Liverpool to Newcastle.

Amber’s mum said she was “surprised” by Amber saying that to Michael.

She said: “It was just banter though, and I think she was trying to see his reaction. He would be welcomed into our family, though.

“You never know what’s going to happen but I really hope they last until the end. And if not I’m sure we’ll still meet him.”

At the beginning of the series, Amber was branded sassy with a bad attitude.

However, her mum defended the 21 year old saying: “She’s always been like, she speaks her mind. I think it’s come from her dad [Leon] and me to be honest.

"If I was feeling uptight or worked up about something, particularly in the beginning when I thought that she was being portrayed as not the true Amber we know or people taking her as being rude, Leon would calm me down because he’s so level-headed.

"He told Amber not to overthink things and he’s so supportive. We all love sitting down to watch her as a family and even the neighbours come over.

"When you get to know her she’s really not way. She’s so kind hearted. She’s confident and she speaks from the heart.

"She’s direct and some people think: ‘Oh crikey, what is she going to say next’. But she holds her own and I’m so proud of her in there.”

Love Island continues nightly on ITV2 at 9pm.
