Monty Don, 66, has taken to Instagram this festive period to show off his new “rampant” addition. The horticulturist is best known for being the lead presenter on BBC’s Gardeners World, with the broadcaster being the gardening master for many around the country.

It has always grown well.

Taking to Instagram in view of his 968,000 followers, the horticulturist posted a picture of his “rampant” growing mistletoe.

He captioned the picture: “Tis the season – mistletoe in the orchard. One of the beneficiaries of climate change.

“It has always grown well in this damp part of the world but now it is rampant.” (sic)

Fans took to the comments to ask Monty about their gardening queries, as well as compliment his mistletoe.

Oakroadgarden said: “I’ve been cutting some off yesterday!

“Where I live it’s even advised by the official nature protection commission to cut it because it’s taking a toll on the trees. Happy Christmas!”

Emmahibbett added: “I was telling my kids the other day that when I was young it was rare and expensive.

“But now every other tree seems to be sporting a mistletoe ball.”

Sidbottom24 commented: “You are lucky! Wish I had this luxury at Christmas. Happy Christmas.”

Fans of Monty have currently been watching him in the three Christmas specials of BBC’s Gardeners’ World.

However, Monty was absent from the second episode aired on December 17, leaving many fans to speculate around why.

Instead, Adam Frost, Nick Bailey, Frances Tophill, Carol Klein, Arit Anderson, and Rachel de Thame hosted the show in his absence.

At the end of the first episode, Monty said: “I hope you enjoyed this special celebratory programme, we’ve got two more to come.

“One which will be hosted by Adam, and another when I will be back here at Longmeadow with you.”

Unfortunately, that is the only explanation for his absence that Monty gave, with the BBC not addressing the switch in the main presenter.

Adam has taken over main presenter duties before, so it is not completely out of the ordinary for the programme to change its pace.

Monty Don has hosted the programme since 2003, making him inseparable from the show for many fans.

The horticulturalist recently brought the 2021 season to a close, giving fans an emotional farewell from the show.

“As we come to an end of another quite difficult and strange year, I don’t think gardens have ever been more important and given so much pleasure and comfort to so many people than they do now,” Monty explained.

However, he did make another appearance in the first episode of the winter specials, back doing what he does best in the garden.

Gardeners World’s Christmas specials conclude on December 24 at 8pm on BBC Two.
