Shortly before the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special started this evening, Motsi Mabuse promoted the show on Twitter. However, a poor choice of wording saw fans become distraught the judge would be leaving her post.
Motsi showed off her Christmas-themed outfit for the Strictly Christmas special on Twitter, saying: “See you later guys! One last time.”
Many in the comment section begged for an explanation and pleaded: “Please don’t say you are leaving!”
However, some seemed content in her resignation and simply thanked her for her time on the judging panel.
One follower delved into the deepest of television gossip as the questioned: “So the rumours are true? You’re going to Britain’s Got Talent?”
Barely a full hour after posting her snap, the judge had to share a disclaimer as the Strictly fanbase had been stirred into chaos.
Motsi simply explained this would be the last time she will be judging the show this year.
She wrote in the follow-up: “For 2022 guys,” with some red hearts.
Fans were relieved that the “panic is over”, as some noted they had narrowly avoided tears on Christmas.
One wrote: “Thank goodness, was about to cry on Christmas Day.
“Can’t wait for you to be back on the show in 2023!! We love you.”
For the Strictly Christmas special, Motsi donned a festive sparkling dress with her hair pulled back into a halo-like up do.
The judge also showed off the new festive judging paddles in the shape of Christmas trees with green sparkles.
Motsi originally joined Strictly Come Dancing judging panel in 2019, taking over from Dame Darcey Bussell.
The dancer grew to international fame as a professional dancer on the German version of the show, Let’s Dance.
After joining as a dancer in 2007, Motsi became a Let’s Dance judge in 2011 before moving to the British judging panel.
Her sister, Oti Mabuse, joined Strictly Come Dancing as a professional in 2015 and announced her departure earlier this year.
She stars in the Christmas special alongside fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke.
As part of the special, six couples are competing for a different type of Glitterball in the one-night-only event.
Audiences at home are also not able to vote during tonight’s special as the in-house crowd will take charge of who gets to stay on the dance floor.
Competing tonight is Rosie Ramsay, Rickie Haywood-Williams, Alexandra Mardell, Larry Lamb, Nicola Roberts and George Webster.
