Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha, 56, has been part of the ITV daytime show since it first began in 1999. However, the star admitted some of the recent exits from the panel left her “surprised”, as she discussed understanding the reasoning behind them.

Nadia opened up about her fellow panellists leaving the series in an interview with Express.co.uk.

She said: “I’m always surprised when people go. But people often come back.

“I think people go and they come back you know?”

The panel show has seen some of its biggest stars exit in the past few months.

Andrea McLean left the show at the end of 2020 with an emotional on-air speech about her exit.

Viewers will remember how the star addressed having a “nervous breakdown”, which led her to question her career choices.

She had been presenting on the show for 13 years before making the decision to “be brave” and try something new.

Saira Khan also left at the beginning of 2021 saying she was “reassessing her priorities”.

She left after five years on the show and at the time said she didn’t tell her co-stars about the news.

However, Nadia added how she could “understand” why her fellow panellists left.

She continued: “I can understand it. I think a lot of people have been questioning a lot of stuff in their life, haven’t they?

“Through the pandemic, we’ve all felt… I mean my God at times I’ve felt I just want to throw everything up in the air and go live in a beach hut and become a surfer.

“That would be very unlike me but I’ve had those feelings.”

However, as Nadia pointed out, goodbyes on Loose Women do not have to be forever.

The presenter has herself left the show several times before returning.

The biggest stretch of this was her absence between 2002 and her return in 2013.

She explained: “I think people come and they go. I mean I’ve come and gone many times over the years myself.”

Nadia was speaking as part of a new campaign with Network Rail and British Transport Police, encouraging parents to talk to their children about safety on the railway tracks.

They’re attempting to raise awareness about the issue as lockdown is coming to an end.

The presenter revealed this is something she feels passionate about as a mother to her two girls, Kiki, 13, and Maddy, 18.

She said: “I think even the most sensible kid can get caught up in peer pressure.

“So even if you think that your child would never do anything like that, it’s worth having a conversation with them.

“They could be in a group of other kids and somebody decides this is the most exciting, most fun thing to do.

“And if they’ve got the information they might be able to say to their friends in the group, you know, just take a moment before you do this.”
