Prince William delights Royal fans with language skills as he chats in Spanish

Prince William showed off his Spanish-speaking skills in a video uploaded to Instagram Stories on Friday morning.

The usually reserved Duke of Cambridge showed off his personality and interests whilst taking part in a Q&A on Instagram, answering questions from followers curious about his life outside of his role as a Royal.

"Do you speak Spanish?" one of the questions sent to Prince William read.

“Sí, un poquito,” the Duke responded, perhaps modestly, after replying in the European language ever so smoothly.

This was all in promotion of Earthshot, a global environmental prize, which will be given out on October 17th to several shortlisted candidates who have committed themselves to progressive environmental work.

Inspired from travelling the world seeing people making positive changes to the planet, Prince William mentioned that he wished to give them a platform to highlight their work.

Referring to his global trotting duties, one follower said, ‘Come to Brazil’, to which the Duke responded, “I’d love to come to Brazil.

“I’ve been longing to come down there for years. It gives me a good excuse now to pop in and see Dani Alves my fellow prize council member whose been doing a fantastic job.”

Other questions mainly centred around the Royal’s latest project, what it signified and how he felt ahead of the event on Sunday.

“Earthshot has given me a lot of hope,” said the Duke of Cambridge.

“In putting all this together over the last 18 months, seeing everyone, meeting everyone and hearing these solutions. I do feel really hopeful that we can turn the tide, we can fix stuff.”

Launched by Prince William and David Attenborough in a bid to encourage work on saving the planet, this will be the first Earthshot awards ceremony, with plans for it to continue annually in different cities for the next 9 years.

“I think the most important thing about the prize is that the time is absolutely crucial,” said the Duke addressing the timing of the ceremony.

“We are on a ticking clock unfortunately and the next 10 years are critical.

“We’ve reached a threshold point where it's irreversible to bring ourselves back to what we currently have and better.”

Aside from giving information on Earthshot, Prince William gave a brief insight into his family life, referring to his daughter, Princess Charlotte, when answering a question about whether or not he believed in unicorns.

“If you talk to my daughter she’d say they were real,” he chuckled.

It was back to business moments after, as he went on to explain why Earthshot matters as a global movement.

This project has clearly developed an intolerance within Prince William towards issues outside of global preservation, as he recently gave negative comments on 90-year-old actor William Shatner going to space.

“We need some of the world's greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live.”

The Earthshot ceremony, held in London, will be streamed on October 17th on BBC IPlayer, BBC One and Discovery on Facebook.
