Sarah Jayne Dunn admits shes had counselling after being axed by Hollyoaks bosses

Sarah Jayne Dunn has opened up to her fans about “needing counselling” after a difficult week that saw her being dropped from Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

The actress revealed she was axed from the Chester-based series because she signed up for an account on adult content platform OnlyFans.

After the shocking change to her career direction, the mum-of-one admitted she felt much better after a therapy session.

"I've just come out of my counselling session,” the former Mandy Richardson star began on her Instagram Story. “Lord knows I needed that one this week.”

The 40 year old star, who married husband Jonathan Smith in 2018, also urged her fans to seek their own counsellor if needed.

"I just wanted to say, for anyone who is potentially thinking about counselling or therapy or anything like that, and if you're hesitant for any reason, please don't be,” she said.

“Please go and do it, it's one of the best things you'll ever do.

"Having that safe space to chat and vent is amazing."

Sarah previously said she was left feeling “disappointed” after the soap’s decision to drop her.

Following the news, she appeared on GB News for an interview with presenter Dan Wootton.

"I feel disappointed and I feel sad and I will miss terribly the incredible, wonderful, talented cast and crew there,” she told him on Tonight Live.

“They are family. I’ve known them since I was 14. I hoped for more and I would have expected more.”

But despite that, the actress had found positives in the decision – particularly in that she will now have more “creative freedom” to do what she wants to.

“I feel as a 40 year old woman and mum, I’ve stood my ground and I stand by that,” the star added.

Sarah was left confused by her OnlyFans pictures causing a “big issue” for the programme because she claimed they were no different to what she’d shared on Instagram for the last four years.

The star decided to join the platform so she could "take back control" of her racier images and because she understood that it wasn't the type of content some of her Instagram followers wanted to see.

In a statement confirming Sarah had been axed, a Hollyoaks representative stated: “We take our responsibility to our young audience very seriously and therefore the show does not allow any Hollyoaks cast members to be active on certain 18+ websites.

"We had hoped we could reach a resolution with Sarah that would allow her to remain in her role as Mandy, but we respect her choice to continue to produce content on OnlyFans,” they added.
