TOYS due to go on sale today at Aldi have been hit by delays caused by supply chain issues.
Over 60 Specialbuy items are not available as expected, including the supermarket's popular range of wooden toys.
It comes as parents rush to the shops to try and beat Christmas toy shortages this festive season.
Some have been let in tears trying to secure must-have gifts for kids and Smyth's toys store has warned parents to start their Christmas shopping now "to avoid disappointment".
Shoppers have been warned that big brands like Elf on the Shelf, Paw Patrol and Barbie figures are among those likely to be missing from shops.
Aldi's toy shop opened for business at the start of October with hundreds of toys for sale online and in store.
Now a range of toys that were due to go on sale online today (October 17) and in stores on Thursday (October 21) have been pushed back.
That includes a £28.99 Lego Hedwig set and a £12.99 Peppa Pig soft toy.
Around 15 wooden toys including a mini grocery playset and Peppa Pig house are also among the toys yet to be stocked.
Aldi's wooden toy range is popular with shoppers and sells out quickly. Some of the range which did go on sale today has already sold out.
Estimated arrival times for the delayed products range from October 24 to November 5 – one to three weeks later than advertised.
But these could still be subject to change.
In a message to customers on its website the discount supermarket apologised to customers "for any inconvenience this may cause".
"Due to the current disruptions to global shipping, a number of Specialbuys may be delayed.
"We're doing all we can to provide clarity on expected availability dates, but
these are subject to change.
"Dates will vary by store and by region."
An Aldi spokesperson said: “Unfortunately some Specialbuys may not be available as advertised.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and hope that these products will be available very shortly.”
Shoppers have vented their frustrations online over the delays to Specialbuys.
Novelty Halloween squishmallow toys were due to go on sale today too and in store on Thursday after already being delayed.
One said: "I'm so disappointed in Aldi, they say they are going to release the mallows on the 14th then there's a delay. Now they can only release on the 23rd?"
Another said they had been to six Aldi stores to get hold of them "and no luck".
Nearly 20 Specialbuy items due to have gone on sale on October 10 are also delayed.
Several of them are Halloween items that now say they are cancelled.
That includes children's £3.99 Halloween Costumes, inflatable pumpkins and Halloween lights.
Other Halloween items are still available to buy online and in store at Aldi.
Retailers have been hit by shortages because of a lack of lorry drivers and issues with supply chains globally.
Experts have warned that festive goods like turkeys and Christmas trees could be missing in shops too.
Stores have had to fill shelves with random items to cover up shortages – with Christmas chocs spotted in the veg aisle.
