IF YOU consider yourself a bit of a beauty addict or if you're a complete novice who wants to try out new products but have no idea where to start… you need a beauty box subscription.
You'll need to pay a fee each month to feed your addiction, but what you get in return is well worth the money – you'll be surprised with new moisturisers, tools, perfumes, candles and more sent straight to your door.
Subscription-based beauty boxes all typically follow the same idea – you pay a fixed monthly fee and a box turns up at your door every month full of brand new goodies for you to try out.
Products will open your eyes to a whole new world of brands and items you wouldn't necessarily reach for.
Some boxes are pricier than others but contain more luxury brands and/or full-sized products, as opposed to smaller tester sizes.
There are even some brands that don't operate via a subscription basis but create monthly boxes that you're able to purchase if and when you please if you're not wanting to commit to a monthly fee.
From hair masques to makeup brushes and even candles, the boxes can contain pretty much anything as far as beauty goes and are a great present to gift someone for a special occasion.

Which monthly beauty box is best?
After trying most of the beauty subscription boxes on the market, we've got a pretty good idea of which to keep and which to delete.
Read on to find out which box suits you.
What is the best subscription box for skincare?
Although so many of the beauty boxes give you the option to tailor your goodies to your needs, it's rare you'll be able to exclude makeup altogether.
If you're a skincare junkie, you might like to try out a skin-care specific box.
Our fave is Mask Time, when you subscribe you get a bundle of sheet masks and more once a month to keep you going.
- Birchbox, £10 per month – buy here
For only £10 a month (plus £2.95 P&P) you will receive five different beauty products from Birchbox.
You have a slight say in what you want in the box, with the choice of two options each month. These can be different colours, flavours or scent of the same product, or a choice between two different products altogether.
The rest of the items vary slightly per person depending on what answers you give in the questionnaire when you sign up.
Each month Birchbox collaborates with a different artist to create a beautiful design for the box, which are super Instagrammable and worth keeping to store your treats in.
Some of the brands they have worked with include Coco & Eve, Spectrum Collections, Luxie, Anatomicals and more.
- GLOSSYBOX, £10 per month – buy here
GLOSSYBOX is another affordable beauty box and is also only £10 a month. However, the P&P is slightly pricier at £3.25 a month.
The brand offers five products a month, gift wrapped in chic pink and black box (which doubles up well as makeup storage).
Usually, the contents of the boxes are the same for all subscribers but can vary sometimes. The GLOSSYBOX site states "in some cases contents may differ depending on your profile information & product availability."
They've also added: "We always endeavour to ensure each GLOSSYBOX is of equal value."
From Huda Beauty to Batiste and smaller indie brands such as Avant and Lord and Berry, GLOSSYBOX has featured a large variation of brands in their boxes.
3. Latest in Beauty
- Latest in Beauty, £9-18 per month – buy here
Latest in Beauty's boxes are ultra-personalised and can be adjusted to suit any budget as there are three different subscriptions available.
Their £9 a month Beauty Novice subscription will give you the option to choose three products from their tailor-made monthly list. When you join you fill out a questionnaire which asks about your age, skin type and all of your beauty preferences. These are then all taken into consideration when you're given a monthly selection to choose from.
Their Beauty Enthusiast is the mid-range subscription, is £15 a month and gives you six product choices, so you'll never end up with something you hate.
Beauty Expert is the most expensive option and for £18 a month you get nine products delivered to your door.
They offer choices from massive brands such as Marc Jacobs, Main + Goetz, Emulsion, Nuxe, Veet and John Frieda so for as little as £9 a month you can be sampling designer brands. Perfect if you've been thinking about trying out a high-end brand but can't justify the price.
Latest in Beauty also offer special one-off purchase collection boxes such as the High Definition box.
It's full to the brim with brow products, worth over £100, but is available to purchase for only £30.
4. Look Fantastic
- Look Fantastic box, £15 per month – buy here
A tad bit pricier at £15 a month (but with free postage), the Look Fantastic box offers around six products every month, which are all available to purchase in full size on the beauty e-tailer's site.
Every month, the box has a different pattern or colour to it and the contents inside often follow a theme.
The e-tailer tends to keep the contents of their boxes completely under wraps unless it's collaborating with a brand, in which case there will be hints.
Previous collaborations include This Works, Illamaqua, Elemis, Laura Geller, EVE LOM, Molton Brown, Sleek and more.
The boxes aren't aimed towards a certain age and tend to be quite diverse in their selections.
You also get a free Elle magazine with every Look Fantastic box.
5. Love Lula
- Love Lula, £14.95 per month – buy here
If you're all about natural beauty and want to try something different, Love Lula is the beauty box subscription you need.
Every month, the eco-friendly box will feature some of the best up-and-coming beauty brands alongside some well-known favourites, and you'll get between four and five products each month.
There is always at least one full-sized product in each box, and everyone who subscribes gets the exact same box.
A feel-good, do-good subscription, some of the previously featured brands include REN, Botanico Vida, Madara, Glossworks and Seascape.
- Powder, £40 – buy here
The priciest of all the options, Powder's monthly boxes will be full to the brim with full-sized products and a couple of smaller samples thrown in for extra measure.
With monthly boxes and additional special collections, there are plenty to choose from but they don't offer a subscription.
As you're spending £40 on a box, it's a tad expensive to assume you will love everything in the box each month, so they are all available to purchase as one-offs. Plus, they make great gifts.
Some vary in price and are a little more expensive but their standard price is £40 and you can expect brands such as Lee Stafford, St Tropez, Nails Inc, Cetafil, Nuxe, Nip + Fab, Hugo Boss and Lacoste in your delivery.
