Eat Out to Help Out was announced earlier this month in Chancellor Rishi Sunak's mini-Budget.
It was designed to help Britain's flagging restaurant sector, which has been struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He said that Brits can get 50 per cent off on meals at participating restaurants, up to the value of £10 a head, throughout August.
Businesses don’t have to sign up to the discount offer, which starts on August 3 and lasts until August 31.
But Costa Coffee has confirmed it’ll be taking part, meaning diners will have plenty of food and hot beverage drinks available.
The chain said it will also pass on savings from a newly announced six-month VAT cut meaning savings will be even bigger.
How much you could save at Costa Coffee in August
THE following Costa Coffee items will be discounted from August 3 to August 31.
This is thanks to both the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and the newly announced VAT cut.
- Small filter coffee: 32p instead of £2.70 (with reusable cup)
- Vegan ham and cheeze toastie: £1.29 instead of £2.95
- Millionaire’s shortbread: 86p instead of £1.95
- Sausage bap: £1.29 instead of £2.95
- Salted caramel brownie: 99p instead of £2.25
- Croissant: 59p instead of £1.35
Costa Coffee has also provided some examples of savings if you're planning on meeting family and friends.
For a table of two:
- Two medium lattes, one blueberry muffin and a slice of lemon drizzle cake: £4.25 instead of £9.70
For a table of four:
- Flat white, iced latte, frostino, lemonade, ham and cheese toastie, Italian mozzarella and tomato panini, chocolate caramel and hazelnut Cookie and Rolo muffin: £10.04 instead of £22.95
VAT has been slashed by 15 per cent for hotels, restaurants and attractions – taking it from 20 per cent to just 5 per cent.
Adding up both the discounts means a small filter coffee at Costa will cost you 32p instead of £2.70 in August – a saving of £2.36, or 87 per cent.
This discount is calculated assuming you bring a reusable cup, which gives you an additional 25p off any beverage.
Without a reusable cup, a small filter coffee will cost 59p in August.
If you fancy something to eat, a salted caramel brownie will cost 99p instead of £2.25.
We’ve listed some more examples of the discounts you can get in the box above.
Costa confirmed to The Sun that all food and drink on their menu will be included in the August discounts.
The coffee chain previously told The Sun that the August changes will take place in Costa-owned branches.
Shops owned by franchisees are encouraged to pass on savings but they don't have to.
This isn't the only saving Costa has announced this month.
The coffee chain is giving away free hot drinks to customers who download their app.
It comes as Costa revealed its new drinks selection and it includes a honeycomb latte.
The Sun has rounded up other example discounts that you'll be able to get with the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.
