DEAR DEIDRE: MY older sister hates me but I can’t escape from her.
She yells at me and says hurtful things all the time. When I cry, she calls me a drama queen.
I am a girl of 15, she is 16. I love her but the feeling is not mutual.
I don’t know why I love her. She has never given me reason to. I hate myself for it.
Sometimes I think she would be happier if I did not exist.
We go to the same school and both play tennis, and it is like living with a bully. My parents say they cannot stop her.
DEIDRE SAYS: It’s sometimes understandable for siblings so close in age to feel jealous of each other and it’s good to hear that you still love your sister despite feeling hurt.
Your parents need to take responsibility to ensure that you both feel loved equally .
Ask if they will talk to the family GP or to your school for a referral for family therapy or contact the Association for Family Therapy (www.aft.org.uk, 01925 444414).
