Lady Gaga’s makeup artist is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at what went into the pop star’s dramatic transformation at the 2023 Oscars.
Sarah Tanno posted a photo on her Instagram Stories Monday of soiled makeup wipes, dirty cotton swabs, and a handful of circular pads.
The makeup on the wipes seemed to be a perfect match to the colors used for the “Poker Face” singer’s dramatic red carpet look.
“The Aftermath…” Tanno captioned the pic.
Gaga, 36, shocked viewers Sunday when she stepped on stage bare-faced for her performance of “Hold My Hand” at the award show — despite walking the red carpet in full-glam just hours earlier.
Whichever remover Tanno used left no trace of the “Paparazzi” singer’s heavily-lined smokey eye, bold red lip and bright blush — leaving viewers begging for answers.
“I just really want to know what makeup remover Lady Gaga uses,” one person tweeted, while another quipped, “Sorry how was Lady Gaga able to get all this makeup off so fast with no smears? If I wash my face like 5 times I still go to bed looking like the Joker.”
Tanno has yet to reveal which magical makeup remover she used on Gaga, but she told Harper’s Bazaar a few years ago that she’s a fan of Lancôme Bi-Facial Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover.
“I like to kick it old school, I like the Lancôme Bi-Facil,” she said at the time, also noting the cleansing powers of a good argan oil.
“Gaga taught me that,” Tanno added. “If you have heavy eye makeup or waterproof products, just straight-up Argan oil is really great to just remove everything and melt it off. I learn so much from her!”
Gaga did not only ditch her glam for the “deeply personal” performance, but she also traded in her Versace gown for a T-shirt, black ripped jeans, and sneakers.

Glenn Weiss, the Oscars’ showrunner and producer, later explained the “Bad Romance” singer’s decision to strip down, saying she wanted the moment to feel “raw.”
“She was really appropriate about the fact that this is a meaningful song to her and she wanted to really strip it down and do it not as an ‘Oscar performance,’ but as her,” he told the Hollywood Reporter. “And that’s exactly what we tried to capture.”
