Living with parents is making me depressed as they still treat me like a kid

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M an 18-year-old woman but my parents still treat me like a child.

They want to know where I’m going, who I’m with, and when I’ll get back, and they don’t give me any privacy.

There’s a guy I like, but they say I’m still too young for a proper relationship.

Most of my friends have been dating for years.

We keep rowing. It’s making me feel so down and stressed.

DEIDRE SAYS: Living with your parents when you’re an adult can be very tricky.

They Want you to live by their rules, but you want to be independent.

Your parents still see you as their little girl and you probably revert to child-like behaviour when they annoy you, which makes it worse.

Discuss some boundaries. They are more likely to give you more independence if you can calmly discuss what is important to you.
