January is all about organising, cleaning and new starts.
And, given that we will be spending the rest of the month stuck indoors, the best place to start is getting your home ship-shape, and free from clutter. Tidy home, tidy mind.
An organised mum has shared which household items you should get rid of now, if you want your home to be clean and organised for the new year.
Steph Pase, from Sydney, says she conducts a rigorous home ‘cleanse’ once every three months, so that nothing builds up into unmanageable in her home for her family of four.
If you struggle to know where to start when decluttering, and worry about throwing things you might need in the future, Steph can help.
‘Decluttering your home can be super overwhelming, and I know one problem most people have is worrying about possibly regretting items they have culled later on,’ Steph wrote on her website.
But, she says there are 20 things you will never regret getting rid of – and ditching them could help your home to feel like a clean haven of calm.
Steph says you should chuck your DVDs and videos, unused coat hangers, dead batteries and mismatched socks.
She also suggests chucking expired spices, old receipts and menus, shoe boxes and kids’ clothes that no longer fit if you have them.
‘All of these are pesky items living in your home that you can get rid of with no regrets later on!’ Steph explained.
She says that when you have finished your decluttering task, you will be left with much more room to create a sleek and minimalist finish in your home.
