This year’s Strictly Come Dancing competition was filled with drama and unexpected events. The ongoing threat of coronavirus left many of the contestants down and out throughout the three-month competition. But it wasn’t the ongoing pandemic that brought AJ and Kai’s journey to an end in the final week.
AJ and Kai triumphed in the BBC One competition all the way to the finale – which took place last week – but disaster struck.
Their spot in the final was taken from them once AJ was forced to pull out after injuring her ankle.
The British TV presenter was devastated, telling her fans: “Learning to dance over the last 13 weeks has been an incredible honour and to do it alongside someone as special, patient and devoted as Kai is something I’ll treasure for ever.”
But fans of the dancing couple may be in luck, as they are taking their final dance on the road.
Today, BBC announced the line-up of the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour, which includes AJ and Kai.
It was also announced that the unfortunate couple will be performing their American Smooth on the live tour – the routine they were unable to show off in the final last week.
Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood – who directs the tour – said: “I was hugely disappointed that AJ and Kai missed the Strictly final. But audiences on the arena tour are in for a big treat, as they will get to see the show dance that AJ and Kai would have performed on Saturday night.
“Plus all the other celebs and pros have some A-MAZ-ING dances planned – it’s going to be FAB-U-LOUS!”
Strictly: Craig argues AJ Odudu could win despite injury
AJ and Kai will be joined by other members of this year’s Strictly line-up.
They’ll be performing alongside Giovanni and Rose, Sara and Aljaž and Max and Katya.
They will also be facing off against Tilly and Nikita, Rhys and Nancy, and John and Johannes.
Each performance on the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour includes a “winner” of the evening, voted for by the audience.
With AJ and Kai going up against the show’s other finalists – Rose & Giovanni and John & Johannes – they may stand a chance in winning the competition for the first time.
The tickets for the shows are on sale now, and range from £35-£95, depending on your seating choices.
And it won’t be just the Strictly professionals who are in attendance: The Strictly judges are also going to be helping audiences pick their favourite dancers.
The aforementioned Revel Horwood will be attending the shows, alongside TV judges Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli.
Janette Manrara will act as the live competition’s host, and is joined by the Strictly live singers and band.
