‘This Is Spinal Tap’ creators reach settlement with studio over income

We hope this leads to a sequel.

Harry Shearer, Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest and Michael McKean of “This Is Spinal Tap” have reached a settlement with Vivendi and its subsidiary StudioCanal.

The creators sued the studios in 2016 for $400 million alleging fraud and claiming they’d been stiffed on proceeds.

The Hollywood Reporter said both sides are “restructuring the parties’ relationship and modifying contracts pertaining to the picture’s distribution.” The settlement talks included the rights to “Spinal Tap,” as well as financial compensation.

The film’s creative team had alleged they’d been paid a comical $81 in merchandising income, and $98 in musical sales.
