Netflix will update Ellen Page’s name across all titles he is involved with on the platform, The Post has confirmed, following the actor’s announcement he is nonbinary, transgender and will now go by the name Elliot.
The streaming giant is already in the process of doing so, the source added, pointing to the IMDb page for the Netflix original series “The Umbrella Academy,” where Elliot’s name has already been updated.
Page, 33, took to social media to share the news on Tuesday.
“I want to share with you that I am trans,” the “Juno” star wrote in a tweet that has garnered over 555,000 likes as of this writing, “my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”
Page goes on to express “overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey” in finding his “authentic self.”
The “Tales of the City” star also calls out political leaders who “work to criminalize trans health care” in the letter, telling them there’s “blood on your hands.”
Page came out as gay in February 2014 and is married to dancer and choreographer Emma Portner, who praised her partner for coming out.
“Trans, queer and nonbinary people are a gift to this world,” Portner, 26, captioned a repost of Page’s announcement on her Instagram. “I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
Celebrities including music duo Tegan and Sara also came out in support of Page’s news. “Profound love and admiration for you @TheElliotPage,” the pair captioned a retweet of Page’s letter. “Your strength, bravery and activism — not to mention all. the art you contribute to this earth — is truly special. Thank you for being so open about your journey and for fighting so hard to make the world a better place.”
