    BOUNCE BACK

    “LOOKING LIKE MESUT OZIL”

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has slammed Chelsea’s big money signing Kai Havertz.

Havertz has failed to deliver since joining in the summer for £72million, scoring one in nine Premier League appearances.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Merson said: “Kai Havertz looks like Mesut Ozil at the moment. A major talent, but when he loses the ball, he doesn’t try to win it back.

“Ozil used to get major stick because he didn’t always seem interested. But Havertz looks like that sometimes now as well.

“He looks like he’s out of his depth or doesn’t really want to be here. But you have to remember this is a young player who’s come to a different country.

“I think he’s struggling at the moment and he needs to come off the bench for a few games against tiring teams, get his confidence back.”

    ON BLAST

In the wake of Bernd Leno's comments putting fellow Arsenal players on blast, manager Mikel Arteta has also taken responsibility for the poor form.

Leno told Sky Germany: "We get red cards, make mistakes, are disorganised.

"These are things that we have clearly addressed a thousand times. In the end, that’s a lack of focus among the players.

"The coach is not an issue in the dressing room, and there is no criticism of him. We criticise ourselves and the players know that they are responsible."

And when asked on Leno's comments in his latest press conference, Arteta said: "I take full responsibility because at the end of the day I pick the players that have to be on the pitch and I have to able to try and transmit to them and get themselves in a state of mind that they can control themselves.

"Unfortunately in football everything can go so quick and emotions take a big part.

"But I want the players to play with that freedom and take the pressure off them in this moment because it is really needed.

"That, in my opinion, is when you get the best out of them."

    YVES-DROPPING

The agent of Yves Bissouma has reportedly claimed that Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are all chasing the signature of the Brighton midfielder.

Mikel Arteta is apparently keen for a replacement for Granit Xhaka in midfield, with Yves Bissouma impressing for the Seagulls this campaign.

Liverpool meanwhile want some midfield cover with uncertainty around the future of Gini Wijnaldum, and the same goes for Manchester United and Paul Pogba's situation.

Monaco and two unamed La Liga clubs are also interested, meaning it could turn into a bidding war for the signature of the Malian international next summer.

    GUNNER STAY

Mesut Ozil has received 'transfers offers from around the world' but looks set to see out his Arsenal contract, according to the player's agent.

The German playmaker, 32, last turned out for the Gunners on March 7 and still has six months left to run on his £350,000-a-week deal at the Emirates.

His agent claims he is not short of options ahead of the January transfer window, especially from Turkey with talks taking place with Fenerbahce.

But he expects his client to stay put in North London for the remainder of the season – and fight to appear under Mikel Arteta again.

Dr Erkut Sogut told Fanatik: "Mesut has another six months on his contract with Arsenal. Certainly he has missed football.

"He is currently working hard to wear the Arsenal shirt again, and he will continue to work.

    IN FOR ISCO?

Reports from Spain suggest Mikel Arteta is keen to sign Spanish playmaker Isco from Real Madrid this January.

An initial loan looks to be the most likely deal to be done, as Isco wants more game time in a bid to force his way into the Spain squad for next summer's Euros.

However, Arsenal are not the only club chasing him, as the report lists Everton, Juventus and Sevilla as other potential destinations for the Real Madrid midfielder.

    STAT ATTACK

Here's a promising pre match stat for Arsenal fans ahead of the game against Everton later.

Arsenal have won more Premier League games (34) and scored more Premier League goals (110) against Everton than they have versus any other opponent in the competition.

Indeed, their 110 goals against the Toffees is more than any side has netted against another in Premier League history.

    Prolific.

    IF AND GUEN

Hertha Berlin want to sign Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi on a permanent transfer, according to reports.

The French midfielder, 21, was shoved out on loan for the 2020-21 season after falling out with Mikel Arteta.

After a delayed start following his deadline-day move due to contracting Covid-19, Guendouzi is already an important member of the team in holding midfield and demonstrating leadership qualities.

And Hertha may look to explore the possibility of signing the former Lorient man as soon as possible.

With Guendouzi in the side, they have lost just one out of seven and average 1.5 points per game compared to 0.6 without him.

    'OLD DREAM'

According to Mundo Deportivo it is an "old dream" of Arsenal's to bring former player Marc Overmars back to North London as technical director.

Overmars is currently director of football at Ajax, but is reportedly leaving his role at the end of the season.

And the Gunners are interested in bringing former winger Overmars in as technical director at the Emirates, replacing current technical director Edu.

Edu has faced criticism from some Gunners fans for his recent transfer dealings, and a reunion with club legend Overmars is an attractive prospect.

    GAMEDAY

The Gunners are in action this evening, with a tricky away fixture to Goodison Park to take on Carlo Ancelotti's Everton.

The Gunners desperately need a win to spark a turn around in league form, and fans will be hoping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goal against Southampton last time out is the start of his revival.

Skipper Aubameyang hadn't scored from open play since September, until netting against the Saints on Wednesday night.

    COMETH THE AOUAR

Arsenal have made contact with Houssem Aouar's family again as they look to push through a move for the Lyon star, the AFC Bell reports.

The Arabic language site, which broke the news of Thomas Partey's imminent arrival in October, states that the club has sent a clear signal to the player that Mikel Arteta is ready to build the team around him.

And the player's grandfather, who is one of three key members of his inner circle, would reportedly be keen on the deal having been one of those who most welcomed the Gunners' interest in summer.

However, Aouar's agent is said to be less convinced as he would like to see Aouar playing Champions League football.

Parlour, 47, told Off The Ball: “Someone asked me the question the other day, can they get relegated?

“They try to make you normal like you’re one of them so, they all took me under their wing and encouraged me, especially on the pitch whenever anything happened, they would come and support me, tell me and encourage me, so I’m grateful to all of them.”

    TOUGH START

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has opened up on the clubs turbulent start to the 2020-21 season.

Arteta said: "I want to believe I am much better as a manager.

"I have experienced things in a year that in a normal job you would experience in 10 or 8, I don’t know.

"But it’s been great. Great because of the people I have around me, the experience we have been able to share with everyone in the club, with the players in this moment has united everybody a lot.

“We’ve gone through that and we will get through it and I have some really good highlights obviously.

“But it’s been one of the most challenging years of the club’s history.

“For many different reasons, I think we have made a lot of progress and implement a lot of positive things that have worked really well.

“We have gone through structural changes right across the club that has shaken the club big time.

"I think it could have been a really positive year but the recent form in the Premier League is taking the gloss off what we’ve done in the calendar year.

“We have to accept that form has not been good enough for this football club.”

    WILL POWER

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has called on Willian to play with purpose.

The 32-year-old left London rivals Chelsea for free in the summer to join the Gunners.

But Willian hasn't got off to the best start to life at the club, and Keown has accused him of playing with no purpose.

Keown told Talksport: "Willian has come to Arsenal football club, it’s like he’s taken a holiday. I honestly could stand out on the right wing and do what he does.

"If you roll me the ball and I just pass it back to you I’m not effecting the game.

“Take the player on, make something happen, get to the byline, don’t just cross it from deep.

"How does [Pierre-Emericks] Aubameyang get on the end of a cross when it’s just a hopeful ball into the box? You’ve got to play with purpose.”

    MUSTAFI ON THE MOVE?

According to Tuttosport, Arsenal defender Shkrodran Mustafi is on Inter Milan's radar, with the defenders contract running out soon.

Since arriving from Valencia back in 2016, Mustafi has failed to make an impact at the Emirates.

And the German is barely used by Mikel Arteta, so a move to the Serie A could very well be on the cards.
