Luck will replace vertical leaps in determining which team gets first possession during Kentucky high school basketball games this season.
According to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, the state has adopted a rule that eliminates the jump ball. Instead, the home team will make the call on a coin toss prior to the game, much like in football.
If games go into overtime, the visiting team will make the call.
The changes are in effect due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It won't be the only difference for Kentucky high school players for 2020-21. The postgame handshake line won't take place, for example. Schools are now required to develop protocols for temperature screens prior to events.
