Man Utd and Brentford fans trade punches and hurl missiles in shameful scenes before riot police called at Old Trafford

MANCHESTER UNITED and Brentford fans clashed in ugly scenes outside Old Trafford on Monday night.

Riot police intervened as missiles were launched between the rival supporters.

Video footage shows a group of United fans chasing Bees followers as they entered the away end of the stadium.

Punches are thrown and flares ignite in the chaos.

However, things were prevented from spilling over even further as stewards and security staff teamed up with police.

They wore face masks and helmets to protect themselves from the smoke and objects thrown.

The events took place amid the backdrop of Red Devils supporters' continued anger at the Glazer ownership.

More protests took place outside and inside the ground at what was United's final home game of the season.

That included vile death-threat chants directed at Joel Glazer.

But the planned mass walkout of Old Trafford failed miserably as most fans decided to stay in their seats.

Many supporters chanted "We want Glazers out" as the match entered the 73rd minute.

But very few actually left Old Trafford – with United coasting to an all-too-rare easy 3-0 victory.

The Red Devils led the Bees 1-0 through Bruno Fernandes' first-half strike – before Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty made it 2-0 just after the hour mark.

Raphael Varane then netted from a corner on 72 minutes, prompting jubilant celebrations.

United fans had also just risen to applaud Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata off the pitch – with both substituted on what will be their final Red Devils appearances at Old Trafford.

Man Utd players completed a lap of honour after the full-time whistle – with fans giving them a good reception despite a harrowing season.
