Zach Wilson benched in 3rd quarter of game against Jaguars, Chris Streveler takes over – The Denver Post

Once again, Zach Wilson’s play forced Robert Saleh to pull his quarterback.

In the third quarter of a crucial game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Wilson was benched as quarterback Chris Streveler took over under center. The change caused a huge roar from Jets’ fans at MetLife Stadium — who booed Wilson for most of the night.

Wilson’s night ended after completing 9-of-18 passes for 92 yards and an interception. Wilson and the Jets’ offense failed to get much production against the Jaguars, who entered Thursday’s game allowing 252.6 passing yards per game — good for 29th in the league.

“I just felt like I didn’t have any rhythm out there,” Wilson told reporters postgame. “I was just trying to find some confidence out there on the field and I was trying to find something to get us going, a little spark, but I didn’t get anything there man”

On his fourth play of the night, Streveler completed a 30-yard pass to C.J. Uzomah in the middle of the field, prompting the crowd to fill MetLife Stadium with more cheers. In the 19-3 loss, Streveler finished 10-of-15 with 92 passing yards. He also added 54 rushing yards on nine carries.

Before his sudden appearance against the Jaguars, Streveler’s last played regular season game in the NFL was as a member of the Arizona Cardinals in 2021. Against the Carolina Panthers last season, Streveler completed 6-of-9 passes for 36 yards. Prior to Thursday’s game, Streveler played in just seven games with the Cardinals.

He went undrafted in 2018 and spent time in the Canadian Football League. The Jets signed him on a one-year deal last summer.
