Coronation Street marked its 60th anniversary with an hour-long episode that just about changed everything.
The ITV soap is six decades old today (December 9), and therefore a special instalment aired this evening — one which saw several narratives hit something of a crescendo.
With Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) finally free from captivity, Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) decided to make life difficult for her once more, and a horrifying roof-top showdown ensued as a result.
Meanwhile, Carla Connor’s (Alison King) one-night-stand with Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) was revealed.
But as the (vintage) credits rolled on the jaw-dropping instalment, there were plenty of questions viewers had on their lips.
Is Geoff dead?
Geoff terrorised Yasmeen for months, but with her finally having been freed from her captivity, the abuser wasn’t pleased.
He decided to terrorise her some more, and burned her prized possessions, before setting her beloved No. 6 on fire.
A roof-top showdown ensued, and Alya (Sair Khan) soon found herself hanging from the roof also, as she tried to save her gran from the controlling abuser.
Geoff ultimately fell, and in spite of Yasmeen’s admirable attempts to save him, he crashed into her back garden — seemingly to his death.
It would certainly appear as though, this time, we actually have seen the last of Geoff.
What’s next for Yasmeen?
Yasmeen was terrified of Geoff — so much so that she previously told Alya that she feels safer in prison than she does on the cobbles, as the abuser wouldn’t be able to get to her while she was behind bars.
Following the trial, Yasmeen was freed, but she soon came to believe that she’ll never be free from the bully.
With Geoff seemingly dead, will she be able to move on and start again?
That remains to be seen.
Actress Shelley previewed what’s next for her character during an appearance on Loose Women.
‘We owe the people who shared their horrific stories with us,’ she told the ITV panel.
‘We have a responsibility, and we owe it to them to actually go through to the end of the road, as it were, which is a never ending journey for women and men who have suffered the way that Yasmeen has.
‘We will not leave it just like that. This is not going to be forgotten.
Will Leanne leave the street?
Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is hellbent on leaving the street in the wake of Oliver’s death.
She informed Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) that staying put in the flat was like a ‘hot knife’, as there are reminders of Oliver everywhere.
Therefore, she had resolved to head to France to visit Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) and Stella.
However, Sam (Jude Riordan) had other ideas….
Will Sam’s intervention with Leanne work?
Sam wasn’t pleased when he discovered that Leanne was planning on leaving, and therefore he devised a really clever plan to prevent her from doing so.
He acquired Nick’s phone on the pretence that he was adding a number of a pizza place to his contacts, but he secretly texted Leanne, calling her a ‘chicken’.
Naturally, Leanne was fuming, and barged into the flat demanding an explanation.
Sam admitted that it was he who called her a ‘chicken’, but will his intervention prove successful?
Could Nick and Leanne reunite?
Will Ray demolish the street?
Ray is intent on knocking down multiple buildings on the eponymous street, but the residents ‘shall not be moved!’
Yes, Ken Barlow (William Roache), Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox), Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman), David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Roy Cropper (David Neilson), Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) and more all took to the brewery to prevent the hotelier from carrying out the demolition.
Corrie’s finest are determined to protect their sacred street, and with Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) leading the residents into battle, we reckon they’re in good hands.
But will they succeed? Or will Ray get what he wants and destroy the street?
Is this the end for Debbie and Kevin’s relationship?
Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) was exposed as Ray Crosby’s (Mark Frost) mole, and Kevin (Michael Le Vell) was left devastated as a result.
‘Kevin, please. Kevin, wait!’, she screamed, but her brother seemingly wanted nothing more to do with her.
Now that Debbie’s lies and manipulation have been revealed, will this spell the end for her relationship with Kevin?
Will Peter take revenge on Adam?
Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) was eager to find out just who it was that Carla had slept with, but the truth was exposed in shocking scenes, as Adam admitted that it was none other than himself.
Peter was left in shock by the young man’s betrayal, but will he take revenge?
Is this the end for Peter and Carla?
Peter will struggle to forgive Carla in the wake of his discovery, but will they ever be able to reconcile?
That remains to be seen, but future spoilers reveal that Peter takes to the booze over the festive season, and ends up believing that he’s dying after spending time in the hospital.
Is this the end for Adam and Sarah?
Peter and Carla’s relationship isn’t the only one that was damaged by the latter’s one night stand, as Adam has since got back together with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).
However, Sarah overheard Adam’s admission in tonight’s instalment, which certainly doesn’t bode well for the pair’s ‘fresh start’.
Will Sarah be able to forgive her beau for what he’s done?
Will she be able to forgive Carla for that matter?
