Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is known for its creative title sequence, complete with bright colors, still images, a video of a kid falling, and a picture of a familiar young girl with red hair. Here’s what we know about the opening credits and which cast member had their childhood picture featured.
‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ features a unique title sequence
It’s a comedy show with a talking purple backpack, a “Lemonading” sequence from Kimmy’s roommate, and an iconic opening title sequence. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt first premiered in 2015, introducing the world to the always upbeat Kimmy and her eccentric roommate Titus Andromedon.
This show starts off every episodes with a colorful intro and an original song. In the story, this remix came about thanks to an interview from a local man when Kimmy and the other Mole Women were rescued. One man started talking about how strong women are, and the internet did the rest.
The ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ opening credits includes a picture of Ellie Kemper
In real life, however, this opening credits song was created by The Gregory Brothers, the masterminds behind “The Muffin Song,” “The Double Rainbow Song,” and other viral creations.
There’s an extended version of this song available on YouTube, as well as an extra special version in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend. When it comes to the clips in this intro, there’s one picture of a girl with bright red hair. That’s actually a childhood photo of one of the cast members on this series.
“As it turns out, that little girl is none other than series lead Ellie Kemper herself, during her younger dancing days,” Screenrant writes. “It’s a sweet moment in the upbeat credits, and allows for a heightened sense of realism in a series otherwise devoid of it.”
Most of the children in the opening credits are presumably of no relation to the actors of the series. Although it has not been confirmed by creators of the series, IMDb reports that a video clip of Jane Krakowski is also included in this title sequence.
‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ has since premiered its last episode
With several seasons released on Netflix, fans went on a number of adventures with Kimmy, Titus, and the rest of their friends. Unbreakable Kimmy Schimdt released its last episode 2019, with Kimmy opening up her own amusement park ride based on the novel she wrote.
The cast reunited for one “interactive” episode of the series, allowing subscribers to choose Kimmy’s adventure as she returned to face the Reverend one last time. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend debuted on the streaming platform during May 2020.
Episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are available for streaming on Netflix.
