On Wednesday evening, the biggest names from the world of showbiz and TV gathered in London for this year’s TRIC Awards ceremony. Among some of the biggest winners of the evening were Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway, Ant and Dec, This Morning and Piers Morgan, all of whom bagged a gong of their own to mark their respective achievements in the world of television. However, when Call the Midwife’s Megan Cusack and Fenella Woolgar presented Coronation Street’s Shelley King with her Soap Actor Award, the former inadvertently stole the show by tumbling off-stage.

Host Roman Kemp had welcomed the Call the Midwife pair to the stage by teeing up the Soap Actor category.

He said to the star-studded crowd: “Next up, Soap Actor sponsored by Samsung, okay.

“Now, I actually told our nominees right before the break but let’s ask Sister Hilda and Nancy Corrigan from Call the Midwife to remind us who is battling it out for the award this year.

“Welcome on stage, Megan Cusack and Finella Woolgar everyone,” Roman said as a round of applause erupted for the BBC actors.

“Thank you, everybody,” Fenella said when she got to the microphone, before spotting the chance for a dig aimed at Piers – who’d left the do early.

“We didn’t win our category but we’re not bitter like some other people so we’re still here,” she cheekily swiped as laughter rippled through the hall.

“The nominees are for Soap Actor,” Fenella added before Megan chipped in: “Danny Dyer, Jane Danson (Coronation Street) and Shelley King.”

“We’ll do this together,” Fenella went on as the pair in unison read aloud the soap star who’d bagged the award.

“And the winner is Shelley King!” Megan and Fenella shouted as the Corrie star soon made her way to the stage.

Shelley spent the next few minutes thanking the crew and cast of the ITV soap as well as those who she holds close to her heart.

But as she finished her speech, a photographer emerged on stage and ushered the Call the Midwife pair to the side in order to get a snap of Shelley with her award.

However, moments later, Megan’s foot slipped off the side of the stage, sending the actor tumbling and the auditorium to gasp in shock.

Roman, Shelley and Fenella all rushed to Megan’s aid to make sure the actor was okay after suffering the painful-looking fall.

As the Coronation Street theme music blasted into the ceremony, Roman raised his hand to shout: “She’s okay!”

The audience cheered at the positive update but it soon became clear Roman remained concerned for Megan after being so close to the fall.

“Okay, okay,” he said as he returned to the microphone and tried to regain his composure.

“I really hope she’s okay,” the Capital Breakfast host added. “That was a proper fall.

“I’ll get someone to tell me if she’s alright but look we must move on.”

Roman went on to thank the Call the Midwife pair and Shelley: “That was a big award to give away, well done Shelley and thank you to our lovely members of the Call the Midwife cast for presenting that award.”
