Corrie star reveals how Seb murder charge will change Kelly

Troubled teenager Kelly Neelan is facing a long stretch in prison for the murder of Seb Franklin after she was charged in Coronation Street – and actress Millie Gibson, who plays her, has told Metro.co.uk that her alter ego is out of her depth and will expose her vulnerability in coming months.

Viewers saw Kelly give in to peer pressure and slap Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) across the face as thugs shouted abuse at her. We also know she was involved in the attack that ultimately killed Seb – but to what extent hasn’t been confirmed.

Addressing how this will change her character, Millie told us: ‘She’s quite a cocky character, she tries to show off – typical teenager. Through this whole event, it has changed or damaged her.

‘She has never shown pain, innocence of emotion – she wasn’t brought up like that as she has been knocked down so much – she has always had a front. After this, she might not be as cocky and be more vulnerable.

‘She’s terrified. She usually wriggles her way out with wit and one liners but this time she is really in deep. She is in this horrible position and she doesn’t know how to get out of it, especially when Corey gets in her head and pins it on her.

‘She forgets herself how young she is. She’s 15 and has been through so much – she has no respect for the adults and acts double her age. She’s way over her head.’

Kelly’s upbringing has certainly played a factor in how things have turned out for her and Kelly reckons that the support of Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) and Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) will be imperative to her.

She sighed: ‘It’s extremely important as they are the first amazing guardians she has had who have stuck through her – this is the worst time of her life.

‘She needs them on her side but she has a lack of trust in guardians, she doesn’t believe they will stick by her. She fears they will drop her when they learn the full story.

‘Georgia and Charlie are so ace, so lovely. There’s some people you see in your script and your heart soars because you know it’s going to be a good day. . Charlie is like a human Labrador. They’re the loveliest people ever.’
