EastEnders' Jake Wood shares bizarre throwback with onscreen wife Jo Joyner as he pays tribute on her birthday

EASTENDERS' Jake Wood has shared a bizarre throwback photo with his onscreen wife Jo Joyner as he paid sweet tribute on her birthday.

The pair played married Max and Tanya Branning when they joined the BBC One soap back in 2006, going on to be at the centre of several dramatic storylines.

And while their Walford counterparts might not be the best of pals anymore, 48-year-old Jake proved that things couldn't be more different in reality.

Taking to his social media page this afternoon, the actor shared a throwback of 44-year-old Jo appearing to be dressed up as Cleopatra – complete with a long, black wig.

She is side-eyeing Jake, who is stood beside her in full battle gear – including gold armour and a fur-trimmed helmet.

He captioned the hilarious post: "Happy birthday @dollyjj 🀣🀣 Love ya 😘 Have a great day xxx"

Jo found the walk down memory lane hilarious, commenting: "πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ ahh, loved doing that play with you πŸ˜‚"

And EastEnders fans couldn't get enough of the sweet interaction from one of their favourite former E20 couples.

One wrote: "I’m obsessed with this photo!!"

Another added: "Love this picture! You both look amazing!🀩❀️"

Last week, Jake joked that there is "life outside of the square" as he reunited with another former co-star, Mel Owen actress Tamzin Outhwaite.

He shared a smiling snap with the 50-year-old beauty three months after his final scenes as lothario Max aired.

In the photo, Tamzin – who played Mel in the BBC One soap – is beaming as she poses for the camera in a patterned blouse.

Jake is smiling tight-lipped beside her in a smart shirt and blazer, his growing bushy beard proudly on display.

The pair are posing in front of a bold statement wall, and fake greenery complete with fairylights.

He captioned the snap: "Great bumping into my previous work mucker @glamzin this week.

"So it turns out there is life outside the Square πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ€£πŸ€£"

Tamzin commented: "Definitely lots of life outside of and beyond the square!! so good to catch up xx"

Their two characters had previously enjoyed a brief fling in Walford, with Max kissing Mel unaware of her then-plans to take down his brother Jack.
