Ed Sheeran will drive himself on his European tour in an electric VW campervan to stay eco friendly

ED SHEERAN has unveiled the next step of his eco-conscious future.

The singer is planning to drive some of the European leg of his upcoming tour in an electric Volkswagen campervan — that is if VW can rustle one up for him.

The move comes after Ed told last week how he was on a mission to re-wild the UK in a bid to offset the carbon footprint caused by his tour.

Ed, who will be joined by his wife Cherry and their 16-month-old daughter Lyra on the road, explained: “I’m talking to VW about an electric campervan.

“I want to travel to every show as electric as possible. The baby is coming with me on tour.

“It was really a slog at the beginning of my career. You would play five shows in a row and have one day off.

“But the luxury of playing these large venues is no one goes mid-week so they have to be at weekends.

“So it’s Friday, Saturday, Sunday every week. We’re going to take time in each city.”

Ed kicks off his Mathematics tour on April 23 in Dublin, and after a string of huge gigs across the UK, he will head to mainland Europe, starting in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on July 7.

In a new interview with Willie Geist, from US TV, Ed also hinted he was preparing to announce further dates, adding: “I can’t see the tour stopping, I’m going to be going for a while.”

Ed, whose album Equals is heading for a third week at No1 on Friday, is currently set to finish his live dates on September 25 with three back-to-back nights in Frankfurt, Germany.

Other city venues include Amsterdam, Swedish capital Gothenburg and Paris — so I’m sure Ed won’t want it to end.

He is the latest big name to try and make their tours friendlier to the planet.

They were all… green

COLDPLAY told in October how their upcoming Music Of Spheres world tour, which kicks off in Costa Rica, in Central America, on March 18, would be powered by solar energy, waste cooking oil and kinetic stadium floors.

The band, fronted by Chris Martin, also announced they would plant a tree for every ticket sold and that fans could help power the gigs by riding on kinetic bikes dotted around the venues to help add to the energy reserves.

Now for them to all ditch their gas guzzling private jets . . .

Singer Dan film plan

BASTILLE’s frontman Dan Smith is making a foray into film-making, after years of using movies and telly as inspiration for the band’s songs.

The singer co-directed a video for their song No Bad Days last year and has hinted there are bigger projects outside of music on the horizon.

In an exclusive chat, he said: “There’s a bunch of stuff I’m working on at the moment which use music but very much step into the film and TV world.

"It’s what I grew up obsessed with.

“I was such a little film geek growing up and it’s a medium I love, so getting to direct a video was really amazing.

“I always wanted to do it but we’ve always been trying to juggle everything.

“It took me having a little more time and space because of there being no touring, for me to be like, ‘I’ve got to do this now. I want to do it now’.

"It was really eye-opening.”

Dan, whose group’s fourth album Give Me The Future is released on February 4, added: “I would love to work more in that world and I think we live in a time when people are less boxed in.”

DRAKE’s fans were left gushing that he is Way 2 Sexy after he shared this stripped-down snap.

The rapper, who dominated the charts with sixth album Certified Lover Boy last year, showed off his ripped body while hitting the gym.

Dressed in these bright green shorts, Drake channelled his inner influencer by smouldering on the fitness equipment.

I shouldn’t really mock his efforts, though. After all, hitting the gym more didn’t even appear on my list of New Year’s resolutions this time.

Kylie's movey star tip

IF you’re like me – see the story above – and need inspiration to stick to that New Year’s resolution to exercise more, just know that Kylie Minogue claims keeping on the move is what has kept her young.

Well, that – along with a load of stylists and expert photographers.

Asked about her secret to ageing gracefully, the Love At First Sight singer, who is 53, said: “Just keep moving! No, if only it were that easy.

“There are lots of secrets, let’s call them ‘tricks of the trade’, and I’ve learnt many of them along the way.

"Good glam, lights, good team, good angles and styling.

“It’s smoke and mirrors but I do try to take good care of myself too.”

Interviewed in India, she added: “I try not to be overwhelmed by pressure to be forever youthful.

“I feel I have pretty much the same enthusiasm for life and for the job, if not more.”

Ye plans Donda 2

KANYE WEST is working on a sequel to his 2021 album Donda, imaginatively titled Donda 2.

Last year’s 27-track album was eventually released in August after a series of delays and now Steven Victor, from his record label Universal, has confirmed a follow-up is on the way.

Last year Kanye officially changed his name to Ye, and Steven said: “Ye has started working on his new masterpiece, Donda 2.”

In recent days it has seemed as if the rapper was doing more flirting than working, after being pictured with two women – one being actress Julia Fox, who he is now believed to be dating.

But if he is trying to make his estranged wife Kim Kardashian jealous, it probably won’t work.

She has just flown to the Bahamas on a romantic break with her boyfriend, comic Pete Davidson.

Meet again

THEY may have had one of the most successful comebacks of 2021 but JLS say neither Simon Cowell or their former X Factor mentor Louis Walsh reached out to congratulate them.

The duo helped make Marvin Humes, Aston Merrygold, JB Gill and Oritse Williams into household names when they appeared on the show in 2008.

Marvin told me: “We haven’t heard from Louis or Simon but they are both busy men.

"It would have been nice to catch up with Louis while we were in Ireland on tour but we were in a bubble so couldn’t see anyone.

"We just would go back to our hotel and sat in our rooms and played poker.”

We're co-awed by Lily in her co-ords

EMILY In Paris star Lily Collins looked like she had nicked one of her character’s eye-catching outfits when she wore these co-ords on Ellen DeGeneres' US telly show.

She opened up about her whirlwind romance with her director husband Charles McDowell, who she married in Colorado in September.

Lily, daughter of rocker Phil Collins, said it was “one of those cheesy but true love-at-first-sight things”.

Which is just as well, as her upcoming thriller Windfall – about a couple arriving at a holiday home to find it has been robbed – is directed by her new husband.
