The popularity of TV dating shows continues to soar, and Channel 4’s First Dates is no exception.
Having been on air since 2013, the series regularly boasts of having created the "most happy endings" of any dating show, and the number of success stories and couples still together is the ultimate writing on the wall.
Millions of viewers have witnessed countless relationships blossom in the First Dates restaurant, resulting in marriages, babies and long-term commitments.
The show’s charming host Fred Sirieix and sweet bartender Merlin Griffiths have helped the show to become a firm favourite in the TV calendar.
Let’s take a look at some of the show’s most beloved pairings and see how they’re getting on.
Doreen and James
Doreen and James met on First Dates in 2017 and instantly hit it off.
The nation was rooting for the elderly widowed pair after James lost his wife and Doreen’s husband of 46 years dumped her for a younger woman.
Doreen has boasted about how quickly their relationship blossomed, admitting they got along almost immediately, with James joking they didn’t have much time to waste at their age.
The pair bonded over their love of flowers and agreed their date was a huge success.
The couple's relationship is still "blossoming" to this day!
Adam and Dan
Painter and decorator Adam claimed to be a ladies man when he appeared on the show in 2014, but that all changed when he was admitted to hospital for a two months stint.
Adam said: "I went in straight and came out gay."
The handsome pair discussed how they revealed their sexuality to their loved ones at exactly the same age.
They also discussed how both their mums never suspected they were gay because they both fancied Kylie Minogue and Julia Roberts.
After hitting it off immediately on their date, the pair went for a romantic drink and the pair are still together to this day.
Dan moved in with Adam that same year and the pair got engaged on Christmas Day. They are now saving up for a wedding
Elan and Cindy
The most recent success story to come out of First Dates is Elan Cohen and Cindy Thompson who met on the show in 2017.
Cindy bravely opened up about her mum’s terminal brain tumour and Elan shared details of his mum's depression.
The couple announced last year that they were engaged, with the couple sharing a video message, revealing they are on “cloud nine”.
Confirming their romance on Instagram, Elan wrote: "Cindy you are the most beautiful person both inside and out.
"I feel like the luckiest guy on Earth to call you my girlfriend, as the last six months together have been incredible! I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us!"
Unfortunately, the pair had to postpone their big day due to the coronavirus pandemic, but hope to tie the knot very soon.
Fran and Will
Despite getting off to an awkward start, with Will stumbling to make conversation and Fran admitting she had no hobbies, Will and Fran finally found some common ground.
With a little help from host Fred while Fran was in the bathroom, Will picked up a few tips and was able to turn the date around.
Talking about their romance, Fran admitted she was very much in love.
Will said meeting Fran was "like Christmas comes early" and rated her a perfect 10/10.
At the end of their date, Will admitted he would like to see Fran again, to which she replied "ditto" while praising his dress sense and tweed.
Three years on, the pair are engaged!
"I still can't really believe we met the day we did. I never ever thought I would meet my soul mate and here he is," said Fran
Will proposed last November, with Fran announcing: "Normally when @willglevy asks me a question I say no, but on this occasion I had to say YES!!!! #weareengaged."
Steve and Lyn
Former royal engineer Steve was paired up with Lyn, who had served in the armed forces for 17 years in 20128.
Lyn dropped a bombshell on Steve revealing that she was six months pregnant with a donor baby after being unable to find love.
Steve bravely opened up about his ongoing mental health issues and offered his full support to Lyn and her baby.
"Whatever’s going to be here then I’ll embrace it all," he said.
Lyn gave birth to her little boy Jaxon-James and Steve was their to support her through motherhood
Greig and Shaun
Greig and Shaun are married after meeting on First Dates.
The couple announced their engagement in 2017, writing on Twitter: “I have some absolutely fantastic news for you all, sorry if I haven’t managed to speak to you over the weekend in person.
"Last week I asked Mr Greig Fairweather to marry me. And he said yes! Beyond thrilled, happy and excited. Haven’t stopped smiling.”
The pair tied the knot in April 2019 and shared a collection of wedding snaps on social media.
On their anniversary, Shaun wrote: "Two years ago today we had our first date and now I'm so proud to call him my husband after marrying my best friend and soul mate. Love you Mr Fairweather and can't wait to go out later to celebrate!"
Hema and Ajai
Both from London, the pair met on series five of the show in 2016.
Hema confessed she was feeling a bit of pressure from her family to settle down, while Ajai admitted he’d already been engaged three times.
The couple immediately hit it off, and despite Hema’s initial concerns about Ajai’s moustache, they celebrated a traditional Indian wedding with some Mallorcan twists a few years later.
