Freydis Vikings actress: What happened to Alicia Agneson as Freydis in Vikings 6B?

Vikings: Ganbaatar attacks Bjorn with bow and arrow

Freydis played an important role in season six of Vikings, and her character saw an interesting twist in part two. She was the wife of Ivar the Boneless (played by Alex Høgh Andersen), but he ended up killing her, and his guilt manifested over the rest of the season. He began seeing Katia, Oleg’s (Danila Kozlovsky) wife, taking the form of his true love Freydis.

What happened to Alicia Agneson as Freydis in Vikings 6B?

Freydis was first introduced in season five of Vikings, and she was a slave who was due to be sacrificed to the gods.

She was one of the only people who showed no fear of Ivar, and this intrigued the son of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel).

Instead, Freydis told Ivar he was derived from the gods, and he was destined for great things – she made him feel special.

She gave birth to his first son, Baldur, but as he was born with a deformity like Ivar, he left the baby outside to die.

Freydis was unable to forgive her husband for killing their child, and she ended up betraying him by helping Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) overthrow him.

Her actions ended up getting her killed as Ivar strangled her to death in a fit of rage.

Fans knew he regretted his actions when he travelled to Kiev with Prince Oleg, and he introduced Ivar to his new wife.

When Katia emerged, she looked identical to Freydis, and Ivar believed she had come back to him in a different form.

The pair struck up a unique friendship as part of Ivar’s redemption arc, as they both felt the same way about overthrowing Oleg.

In the second half of season six, Katia’s character really shone as she abandoned her husband altogether to help Ivar.

She was able to help sneak the rightful ruler of the Rus, Igor (Oran Glynn O’Donovan), out of Kiev and to the safety of his uncle Dir (Lenn Kudrjawizki).

Katia and Ivar succeeded, with the help of Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø), and after Oleg had been killed Ivar knew he had to leave.

He asked Katia to come with him but she refused, revealing she was carrying his child and she wanted to stay with her family.

She promised to raise their child well and said he would always be remembered as the son of Ivar the Boneless.

Once Ivar and Hvitserk leave Kiev, Katia was not seen again, but it is presumed she remained there with Igor and gave birth to her child.

She was no longer seen in the series as an indication Ivar had overcome his grief over losing Freydis.

Katia said she looked like his former wife as this is what Ivar wanted to see, and he eventually came to terms with what he had done, and the consequences of his actions.

He then headed for Wessex in a bid to defeat King Alfred (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo), which meant Katia’s storyline was no longer relevant to the series.

Actress Agneson is on Instagram and she shared a photo of her co-star Kozlovsky, with the message: “This picture kind of describes the feelings of the last episodes of Vikings.

“Happy because it’s finally here and we love it and sad because it’s the end and it’s crazy after all these years we’re done! Over and out Kiev ps Dani I love you crazy one but you were a terrible husband.”

Fans shared their thoughts on the final season, with one responding: “Omg I watched it! It really was an incredible season, you all did an amazing job. I’m definitely going to miss the show so much now. I’ll have to rewatch it 10000 times [sic].”

Although the show did not explain in detail the connection between Katia and Freydis, its creator Michael Hirst previously discussed the idea with

He said he needed fans to realised how Ivar was feeling guilty about killing Freydis, so it was easier to use the same actress to represent the real manifestation of his guilt.

Some viewers believed Katia and Freydis were related, whereas others thought she was reincarnated. There had also been theories suggesting Freydis actually survived, and she returned with a new identity to haunt Ivar.

Angeson has received plenty of praise for her portrayal of both characters, and she will be sorely missed now the series has come to an end.
