Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams reveals Jon Snow was destined to kill Night King before Arya shake-up

GAME of Thrones star Maisie Williams has revealed Jon Snow was originally destined to kill the Night King before iconic Arya shake-up – leaving Kit Harrington gutted.

The actress made the confession during an interview, admitting she felt as though she had the best storyline out of everyone in season eight.

Fans of the HBO high-fantasy epic will remember that Ayra Stark, played by Maisie Williams, was the one to finally end The Night King during the Battle of Winterfell.

However, during an interview, the actress said the plot twist making her The Prince That Was Promised was orchestrated by showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss.

She said of the switch: “Yeah, I think it would’ve been too obvious. I’m glad that it was Arya, honestly. I think I had the best storyline of the final season.”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Maisie revealed Kit Harrington had actually been privy to some confidential information early in the shooting of Thrones.

He knew that in an alternative ending, Jon would indeed have been the one to kill the Night King.

Maisie said: “Yeah, they did [expect Jon to kill The Night King.]

“[Harington] expected it to go that way, too, and he even said, ‘It was going to go that way. Someone told me in season three that I was going to kill The Night King.’

And it seems no-one was more shocked by the turn of events of season eight than, Kit Harington.

“Then, he read the script, and it was Arya the whole time,” she cackled.

Arya Stark shocked everyone when she jumped over the hordes and used her sword to stab The Night King through the heart during the Battle of Winterfell.

In what many felt as an anticlimactic ending to the White Walkers’ threat to Westeros, it cleared the way for dragon queen Daenerys Targaryen.
