Boris Johnson's return to Good Morning Britain has been branded a "car crash" by ITV viewers.

The Prime Minister finally appeared on the ITV breakfast show on Tuesday (May 3) morning for the first time in five years.

Mr Johnson has been noticeably absent from GMB, with presenters Susanna Reid and former host Piers Morgan regularly accusing the Conservative party leader of intentionally snubbing the show, notoriously tough on politicians.

Three years after he famously ran away from Susanna and Piers by hiding in a fridge in the lead up to the 2019 general election, Mr Johnson finally agreed to chat to Susanna live from Downing Street.

After watching Susanna and Boris clash for over 15 minutes, the ITV presenter was forced to end the interview and hand over to Lorraine Kelly, who hosts ITV's Lorraine after GMB.

However, it appears that Mr Johnson may not know who broadcaster Lorraine is.

Susanna said: "Lorraine is waiting to take up all the issues you have brought up in this interview.

Boris asked: "Who's Lorraine?"

A shocked Susanna repeated: "Who's Lorraine? Lorraine is a legend."

As the camera panned over to the ITV studio, Lorraine said: Wow thank you Susanna. A masterclass in a political interview."

Viewers at home rushed to their keyboards to discuss Boris' comment.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "Out of this whole interview.. this has tipped me over the edge. “Who’s Lorraine” How could he!?"

Another added: "Not knowing who Lorraine is might be what finally gets him out!"

A third person posted: "'Who’s Lorraine?' Oh Boris what a way to end your man of the people interview with GMB’s Susannah Reid.

While a fourth social media user said: "Boris saying 'Who's Lorraine?' As GMB cuts to Lorraine… thats enough #GMB for 1 year…."

Others compared described the highly-anticipated interview as a "car crash"

One viewer said: "There is only one way to describe Johnson’s #GMB interview #CarCrash"

Another tweeted: "Car crash of an interview, learnt nothing and abruptly finished as Lorraine Kelly is up next to talk about the Met Gala"

"He spent 5 yrs refusing to do #GMB suspect it'll be another 5 yrs before he goes back…. #Carcrash," a third person penned.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
