Piers Morgan finally had his say on Harry Styles’ historic US Vogue cover as he debated a debate on whether it’s time to ‘bring back manly men’ on today’s Good Morning Britain.
The Watermelon Sugar singer made history as the first solo man on the magazine’s cover and wore a Gucci dress for the occasion, which has caused a stir among some.
Discussing the landmark moment on the programme, Piers asked: ‘Why do men need to wear dresses?
‘I’m not saying I’m against it, I’m not saying I’m for it. I’m just saying it’s all a bit weird.’
‘For the same reason women are allowed to wear trousers if we want to,’ interrupted co-host Susanna Reid.
‘But Harry Styles just looks a bit weird here,’ Piers added. ‘I mean, he’s not going to go out, is he, for dinner like this?’
Defending Harry’s magical cover, activist and model Rain Dove said: ‘The great thing about fashion is it’s constantly evolving. I think people should wear what they think is the best tool to access the world around them.’
Meanwhile, journalist Sally Jones argued Harry ‘looks OK but just a bit weird’ in a dress.
She stated fashion has become very metrosexual because of the ‘great dominance of gay views’ in fashion and that ‘ordinary manly men’ have become old school.
Harry’s mum is claiming the credit for her lad growing up to be a frock star.
Anne Twist stuck up for her son on Lorraine earlier this week, and revealed he loved to rummage in her wardrobe.
‘I think maybe I had something to do with it because I was always a big fan of doing fancy dress with them when they were smaller,’ Anne explained.
She said, although the singer’s sister Gemma hated the idea, Harry ‘always embraced’ it.
‘But who doesn’t love playing dress-up?’ she asked.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
