How old is Ugo Monye, is the former England and Harlequins winger in The Real Full Monty 2018 and who is his wife Lucy?

SERIES 19 of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing has found its first official contestant, according to recent reports.

Ugo Monye allegedly signed to appear on this year's instalment of the dancing show after being convinced by his friend, actor Jamie Laing. Here's what you need to know about him.

Who is Ugo Monye?

Ugo will be making a drastic change in his day-to-day life as he doesn't seem to be used to the dance floor.
Born on April 13, 1983, and hailing from Islington in London, he is more used to the sports scene as a former rugby union player turned sports pundit.
Ugo began his career at an early age as a star athlete and competed in the English Schools' Championships finishing 5th.

A student at Lord Wandsworth College, he eventually decided to pursue rugby when his former sports master Tim Richardson put him in touch with Harlequins' coach, Colin Osborne.

Who did Ugo Monye play rugby for?

Ugo is a rugby union player who has graced the positions of wing, centre and fullback in his career.

He spent his youth and senior career at Harlequins, with whom he won both the second division, the Premiership title and the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

Ugo has also played for England, British and Irish Lions (during their 2009 tour to South Africa), Barbarian FC and England Saxons.

He retired from rugby in 2015.

He has since then become a successful sports pundit, presenting the Rugby Union Weekly podcast for the BBC and also hosts on BT Sport.

A brand Ambassador for Maximuscle, it was announced that Ugo would be one of the new team captains on the next season of A Question of Sport, alongside hockey star Sam Quek.

He is the first Strictly contestant to be announced for series 19 of the reality show.

"Ugo can't wait to get out on the dancefloor and show off his moves", a source told The Sun.

"He's not known for his dancing but he's not afraid of a challenge."

When will the rest of the Strictly Come Dancing contestants be announced?

The celebrity dancing competition will make a return to the screens this autumn and could air in its usual spot, in September, 2021.

While Ugo Monye has already been revealed as Strictly first star to join the competition, contestants aren't usually announced until a month before the show's official air date.

Viewers and fans can therefore accept the line-up to be revealed around August, 2021.

The rumour mill has already been running wild ahead of series 19 of the programme.

Christine McGuinness – wife of Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness – and former footballer Rio Ferdinand are rumoured to take part in this year's series.

Fortunately, there is plenty for viewers to get excited about before discovering the full star-studded line-up.

The BBC recently confirmed that four new professional dancers will be starring in Strictly's 19th instalment.

Kai Widdrington, seen in the Irish version of Dancing With The Stars, Let's Dance Germany's Nikita Kuzmin, South African Latin champion Cameron Lombard and Jowita Przystal, winner of The Greatest Dancer, will take part in the show.
