Im A Celeb to take place in Gwrych Castle for third time next year

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is set to return to Wales for a third year running, according to reports.

The show had been filmed in a purpose-built site in Australia since its first series aired in 2002, but 2020 saw the the first time the show was filmed in the UK.

ITV bosses swapped the Australian jungle for Gwyrch Castle for both its 2021 and 2020 series due to pandemic travel restrictions, but many fans are hoping it’ll turn to the jungle next year.

That might not be the case, however, with one source suggesting that ITV has already reserved the castle for filming next year in case a return to Australia can’t go ahead.

“At the moment it is pretty much nailed on for a third year in the castle,” an ITV source told The Sun.

“Australia is opening up but could also snap shut at any time depending on how things go so that situation is far from being on an even footing.

“The executives are happy to stick with Gwyrch Castle for another year and then after that the show might finally get back Down Under.

“But the viewers are understanding because Australia is super-strict so they know that getting back to Oz isn’t really feasible at the moment.”

Former Emmerdale actor Danny Miller was crowned the King of the Castle following the final on Sunday 12 December after a series where the show had faced its challenges.

Storm Arwen forced the programme off-air for three days due to bad weather and the show faced more than one trespasser making their way onto the set.

It also saw the early exit of presenter Richard Madeley after he broke the show’s Covid bubble with a hospital visit.

However, the team at the castle released a statement following the 2021 final, thanking ITV for their hard work and collaboration.

It read: "We'd like to thank ITV and I'm A Celebrity for returning to Gwrych Castle for the second year in a row.

“It's not been an easy ride for yourselves with the pandemic and most recently the storm to deal with, but we'll be forever grateful for your support and hard work."
