Katie Price given new hope with mum's terminal illness as 'inhumane' restrictions on treatment are set to be reviewed

KATIE Price is feeling positive after news her mum Amy might be able to access vital medications.

Amy, 64, suffers from idopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that has left her with just 32 per cent of her normal lung capacity.

Today the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) announced it would review its decision which restricts access to anti-fibrotic treatments.

The treatments help slow decline in lung function and reduce the risk of acute respiratory deteriorations.

Patients currently only receive these treatments when their lung function dips below 80%.

Even though the review can take up to 50 weeks, Katie welcomed the decision.

"I’m so delighted to hear that through @actionpulmonaryfibrosis campaign, NICE has agreed to review the restrictions on anti-fibrotic treatments for IPF patients like my mum," she wrote on Instagram alongside an image of the announcement.

"It’s inhumane that these restrictions are in place. My mum is at a critical point and the medication may be refused as she reaches the threshold where the restrictions kick-in.

"This would be devastating for her and us. NICE needs to act fast."

The mum-of-five said on Northen Ireland's Nolan Live that Amy turned to the British Lung Foundation for support and advice and was told to make the most of the time she has left.

Katie continued: "Just build memories, take lots of pictures, that's all you can do really. You know it's coming and have to learn to deal with it."

She also revealed more recently that she is fast tracking her wedding to Carl Woods so Amy could be there.

But she was also having IVF so her terminally-ill mum could see her have children with fiancéCarl.

The Sun revealed earlier this month that Katie is going to have IVF in the hope of having a sixth child.

She explained: “I’m doing this for my Mum – she told me to have IVF so she can see us have kids… it will break my heart if she can’t.”

The star has never made any secret about wanting to start a family with Essex car dealer and former Love Island star Carl, 32.

And now she says doctors have assured her that she will have a baby this year.

Mum-of-five Katie already has children Harvey, 18, from a relationship with Dwight Yorke, and Junior, 15, and Princess, 13, who she shares with Peter Andre.

She also has youngest children Jett, seven, and Bunny, six, with ex-husband Kieran Hayler.
