Outlander has never shied away from showing some intense and physically challenging moments during his tenure on the historical time-travelling drama. The Starz show gets to grips with some of the more brutal aspects of history and it looks as though season six will be no different. During a recent Q&A at the New York Comic-Con, the stars of the show set slip one particularly challenging scene that was helped by a little humour.

Details on Outlander season six are still vague, but fans are slowly but surely piecing them all together.

Following the release of the first dramatic trailer for the sixth season, Outlander fans got another treat when the cast hosted a Q&A at NYCC 2021.

The team was asked about their experiences on the show, what filming the series is like, and of course, details on season six.

It wasn’t long before Claire Fraser star Caitriona Balfe let slip a certain operation scene, one that Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan struggled to film.

When asked about working with Mark Lewis Jones, a new actor joining the team as Tom Christie in season six, Balfe shared a funny moment from behind the scenes.

Balfe explained: “He’s great! I mean he’s such a fantastic actor but I think he had Sam [Heughan] and me in stitches the most.

“There might be a little operation that Claire has to do on Tom [Christie] and Mark was just so funny!

“Sam kept breaking every time we were doing [the scene], he would just be like, ‘Oh Jesus, oh God!’

“But no, they’re great, there’s such a good dynamic having [Jones].”

Just how this scene will play out remains to be seen, though book fans may already be familiar with it.

Season six is based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth novel – A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

It isn’t known just show closely season six will stay to the book, though by and large, the show has always remained faithful to the source material.

This is evidenced in some of the castings for season six, as there will be three new faces joining the team.

Joining Mark Lewis Jones is Alexander Vlahos and Jessica Reynolds, who will all feature in the next season, and book fans will know exactly who they are playing.

Jones will of course star as Tom Christie, the father of two children, Allan and Malva, played by Vlahos and Reynolds respectively.

Their storyline is one of the darkest chapters in the Outlander world, and Balfe’s operation scene will likely include all of them.

Of course, nothing is confirmed, and as always, fans should expect the unexpected in the series.

A release date for season six is still to be confirmed, but it is expected to be announced in the coming months.

It is estimated season six will premiere in February, though this is still just speculation.

Season six was filmed back-to-back with season seven, meaning there will be a significantly shorter wait for the seventh chapter.

The wait between seasons five and six has been so long, that fans have taken to calling it “droughtlander”.

Outlander season 6 will premiere in early 2022 on Starz in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
