'Power Book III: Raising Kanan': There's a Major Plot Hole Involving Breeze

Power Book III: Raising Kanan is set in the ’90s and centers on the teen years of pivotal Power character Kanan Stark (Mekai Curtis), as he comes of age in South Jamacia Queens. Raised by his drug queenpin mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller), Kanan is desperate to be indoctrinated into the drug game despite Raq’s reservations.

However, fans are pointing out that this storyline contradicts the narrative of a supposed main character in Kanan’s life, the ever-illusive Breeze.

Who is Breeze in the ‘Power’ Universe?

When we are first introduced to the adult version of Kanan Stark (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) around 2015, he’s in prison. Kanan reflects on the fact that Breeze showed him the street life and that together they mentored Ghost (Omari Hardwick) and Tommy (Joseph Sikora).

Later, Ghost reveals to his son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr), that he killed Breeze to take over his empire. “I was your age when I killed him. I killed Breeze because he got in the way of my future,” he says in an episode from Power Season 6.

However, looking closely at Power Book III: Raising Kanan, the character of Breeze doesn’t make much sense.

‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ has a Breeze plot hole

Though Power fans have known about Breeze since the second season of Power, his place in Kanan’s life isn’t adding up. From where we’re sitting, Kanan learned everything about the streets through his mother, Raq.

“They was like Breeze taught him the streets when his mom is a f—— queen pin too so I don’t know what he gains from him in that way honestly,” one Redditor explained via Express. Another added, “This show doesn’t match up with Power Kanan at all. 50 must’ve wanted his character to suddenly be like Riq so here we are. Just gotta ignore everything you heard on Power about his past.”

Things aren’t connecting just yet, considering the fact that Raising Kanan opens in 1991, and Breeze is murdered around 1996. However, knowing how interconnected the Power Universe gets we’re going to give it the benefit of the doubt. Moreover, Kanan following Breeze means something tragic will likely happen to Raq in the near future.

Symphony Bosket is still a mystery in ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’

In addition to the unanswered questions about Breeze, Symphony Bosket (Toby Sandeman) is also a mystery in Power Book III: Raising Kanan. From what we know thus far, Symphony is Raq’s lover. A master’s student who is also a bartender and an adjunct professor, fans aren’t convinced Symphony’s intentions with Raq and Kanan are pure.

While some fans believe the character is connected to James “Ghost” St. Patrick in some way, others believe that he is an undercover cop. “The man is 100 percent an undercover cop, federal agent, or informant. He got too much of a clean-cut image to him,” one Redditor suggested via Express. “Got the cop haircut too, something doesn’t add up about Symphony.” Another added, “Yeah, he kind of gives me the vibe he might be something other than a bartending grad student, what that is I’m still on the fence about.”

These rumors were further fueled following the events of Raising Kanan episode 105 when Detective Malcolm Howard (Omar Epps) releases Kanan into Symphony’s custody without much of a fight.
