Sharon Osbourne seeks 'seven-figure' TV payout after fallout over support for Piers Morgan

HER departure from hit US TV show The Talk is a travesty but I’m told Sharon Osbourne’s wrangle with CBS chiefs is far from over and a financial battle is “ongoing”.

This weekend the former X Factor judge stood down from her role on the long-running series — the US equivalent of Loose Women — amid the fallout over her support for Piers Morgan as well as a dispute with former colleagues.

The incident made her the latest victim of the cancel culture ripping through the world of showbiz, which has already seen Piers depart from ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

And US TV sources tell me Sharon is now turning the screw on show bosses to make sure she is paid every last penny owed to her after agreeing to walk without further drama.

It is believed she is after a sum well into seven figures. The source added: “Sharon is livid — a lot of what is being said is total nonsense, but she wanted to be away from the drama and agreed it was time to step away.

"She is adamant she is still owed money, though, and won’t let that go. A quick departure with no further fuss would suit everyone but she isn’t giving in on the cash.”

Sharon defended Piers’ comments about Meghan Markle in the wake of her controversial high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey.

This landed Sharon in a dispute with her The Talk co-host Sheryl Underwood — and a string of former colleagues then spoke out to accuse Sharon of mistreating them while they worked alongside her, although she has denied all of these claims.

A week later, executives announced she had “decided to leave The Talk” — while adding: “Sharon’s behaviour towards her co-hosts did not align with our values for a respectful workplace.”

My source added: “Sharon apologised over the on-air debate, which was obviously fiery, but doesn’t feel that she’s done anything else wrong.”

Now, obviously I wasn’t there but I’ve seen the clips and, as Sharon points out, the show is set up to spark fiery head-to-heads.

If there is no longer a place in society for people to disagree with one another, whether this is televised or otherwise, then there is no hope for any of us.

Riri's a skirty stop-out

THERE have not been many celebrity parties over the past year but

Rihanna has kept the spirit alive by dressing up just to grab a bit of grub.

She wore this leather miniskirt for dinner at Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica – somewhere she has been snapped going to several times in recent weeks.

Clearly, just like me, she got sick of cooking while stuck at home and is making the most of being in California where restaurants are all open.

After a stint living in London while dating businessman Hassan Jameel, she is now putting down roots in Los Angeles again. She has just spent £10million on a 7,600 sq ft estate in Beverly Hills, with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a pool.

It also makes her a neighbour of Sir Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey and Madonna.

That should encourage her to finally get a move on and release some more music.

Alex needs to stay in his lane

LOUIS Armstrong sang, “I don’t care what the weatherman says  . . .” – and how right he was.

Three weeks ago Piers Morgan confirmed his departure from Good Morning Britain – much to the triumphant glee of forecaster Alex Beresford, who until that moment had been a bit-part nobody on an otherwise successful breakfast show.

Suddenly cocky Alex, whose primary role on ITV has been to read the little sunshine and rain symbols on the map out loud, had claimed the biggest scalp in broadcasting for a decade – and my God did he look smug about it.

His moment in the spotlight lasted about three minutes until Piers had to walk off set to cool down – making it about two and a half minutes too long.

But as Piers revealed this weekend when he spoke out about his departure, Alex has unsurprisingly yet to get in touch with his warm wishes since their on-screen row – leaving bosses without their most successful frontman, and in his place a newly triumphant extra who’s since taken to airing his views more enthusiastically than ever.

No doubt he was rather quicker to cosy up to show chiefs about his own future.

This week he went one stage further as he sat centre stage at GMB’s famous desk, before hopping up and hula-hooping in the middle of the studio like a desperately eager US pageant teen.

But here’s the thing, viewers aren’t buying it – they weren’t tuning in for his weather reports before, so they’re definitely not tuning in for his political views and showing off now.

His previous major TV outing was an appearance on Dancing On Ice in 2018. Hollywood isn’t exactly beckoning . . .

However much he plainly wants it, charmless Alex isn’t the saviour of breakfast telly – and like most viewers I don’t really care what he has to say, just like Louis Armstrong said.

Nicki's lil bit of fun

LIL NAS X has sparked rumours he has teamed up with Nicki Minaj, after abruptly ending an interview when asked.

The Old Town Road rapper ran a fan account for her as a teen and last year dressed up as her for Halloween. Asked on an Instagram Live how it felt to work with her, he said, before logging off: “Oh my God, I gotta go. I love you Nicki. Gotta go.”

He released his single Montero (Call Me By Your Name) on Friday and it is set to be the highest new entry in the chart this week, now at No 15.

That will thrill him, after he revealed his label spent a fortune on the video. He said: “The budget was one-point-something million. I love my label. It took two days to shoot but took me two weeks to learn how to pole-dance.

I worked out every single day for three weeks to get the strength to do that s**t.”

Noel gong

NOEL Clarke will receive the Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema award at the EE Bafta Film Awards on April 10.

The star has had major roles in Doctor Who and the revived series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, as well as writing and appearing in the film trilogy Kidulthood, Adulthood and Brotherhood – the latter two he also directed.

Noel, who won the Bafta Rising Star award in 2009, said: “Thank you, Bafta, for this acknowledgement and recognition of my work over the past two decades.

"I will endeavour to continue to make ground-breaking work and open doors for under-represented people that may not often get a chance.”

You taking us for a ride, James?

JAMES Blunt has been a soldier, a hit singer-songwriter and an author, but now he’s found himself an unexpected new career – as a taxi driver.

The You’re Beautiful singer said he imported a tuk-tuk from Thailand to his home in Ibiza and keeps being mistaken for a professional rickshaw man, which he plays along with.

James, worth a reported £15million, said of his novel mode of transport: “It says taxi on it and people stop me and go, ‘Hey mate, how much is it to Ibiza Town?’ Then they go, ‘Oh God, it’s you!’

“Then they go, ‘Oh no, man, what happened?’ And I just go, ‘It’s five euros – let’s go!’”

That’s not a bad way to keep the pennies rolling in. Rather than buying just one rickshaw, James has splashed out on a second because they are perfect for the narrow streets of Ibiza, where he has a home with his wife Sofia Wellesley and their two sons.

Speaking on Alan Carr’s Life’s A Beach podcast, James said he ended up gifting the second tuk-tuk to one of his two sisters.

He added: “She uses hers on the school run.”

That's swell

JASON Derulo and his model girlfriend Jena Frumes have clearly been busy in lockdown – they’re expecting their first child.

The couple revealed they will be having a baby later this year, by posting this photo on social media. Jena captioned the shot, “Mom & Dad,” while he wrote, “Couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter in our life @jenafrumes”.

He met the model at a gym at the start of 2020 and they began dating shortly after, as I exclusively revealed in this column. Asked last summer if he had “baby fever”, he said: “You know, I’m getting to that age, you know what I’m saying?”

Elt’s metal mash-up

SIR Elton John has revealed a surprising musical combo, teaming up with heavy-metal band Metallica.

He slipped it into conversation during a chat with Brit producer SG Lewis on his Apple Music show Rocket Hour. Elton said: “I’ve just done something with Metallica. During this lockdown period, I’ve been working with Gorillaz and people like that.

“I haven’t been doing any Elton stuff, but I’ve been doing great stuff with other people.”

Miley Cyrus previously revealed she was making an album of Metallica covers, with Elton joining her on a version of 1991 song Nothing Else Matters. She said in January: “I’m stoked. I love when ingredients don’t quite fit.”

Selfie Queen

JESY Nelson is giving Kim Kardashian a run for her money as social media’s Queen of Selfies, given the sheer number of shots she has posted in recent weeks.

The former Little Mix singer uploaded this photo of herself on Instagram yesterday, which looks a lot like most of her other snaps alone at home. But I can’t blame her.

Jesy looks great basking in the sun here and she certainly has a knack for feeding her eager fans with fresh updates.

She captioned this latest post: “Summer – hair gets lighter. Skin gets darker. Water gets warmer. Drinks get colder. Music gets louder. Nights get longer. LIFE GETS BETTER!”

And selfies get more regular.

Gwyn's caviar tip is just brainless

GWYNETH Paltrow is revealing herself to be even more out of touch than Harry and Meghan. The actress-turned-wellness guru has advised her fans to eat expensive caviar to stave off Alzheimer’s.

Her Goop website says the delicacy is “brain food” and is listed as one of the best things to eat to fight dementia.

Gwyn says in a new post: “Too often, when we think about our diet, we’re thinking about how it affects our bodies, not our brains.”

But Dr Rosa Sancho, head of research at Alzheimer’s Research UK, dismissed the advice and said: “It is possible for everyone to eat a healthy, balanced diet without expensive foods. Those who want advice about healthy eating should speak to their doctor.”

The Hollywood star’s latest mad advice comes after she recommended fans buy a £700 yoga mat – as the world struggled to deal with thousands furloughed or losing their jobs as a result of Covid.
