Strictly Come Dancing has been trickling out this year’s line-up in recent days, with already-confirmed stars including Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo and comedian Billy Bailey. Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were on-hand to reveal the next two stars as Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and EastEnders’ star Maisie Smith. The actress opened up on her hopes of taking the crown this year, calling herself a “dark horse.”

Maisie has already made an entrance onto the Strictly dance floor, having taken part in last year’s Children in Need special.

Phillip asked: “You are already a Strictly winner! Was that a fluke? Or are you a potential winner?”

She responded: “An absolute fluke, I’m not going to lie, I’ve got dancing experience, I’ve done a bit of hip-hop and street dancing.

“I have no technical ability, feel as though I was very lucky that week… I could be a dark horse!”

The hosts had already questioned Maisie on her huge presence on social media platform Tik Tok.

During the recent lockdown, Maisie has been posting a number of videos on the app, which have included some viral dance routines.

The star said: “I mean yeah, I did set out to stay fit during the lockdown and it didn’t pan out very well.”

She spoke out on being “out of breath” when performing the routines, adding: “That’s good training I think, for Strictly!”

Maisie is best known for her role as fiery Walford resident Tiffany Butcher Baker and is sure to be hugely popular with BBC viewers.

It came after the announcement of her becoming part of the line-up was revealed slightly prematurely this morning.

Lorraine Kelly accidentally let slip she would be joining the batch of stars this year, whilst speaking to one of Maisie’s co-stars.

Martin Fowler actor James Bye was on-hand to speak about how his character will have developed when the show returns next week.

But when Lorraine remarked how he felt about co-star Maisie signing up for the show, she soon realised her error.

The host asked what James thought of the Tiffany actress’ new move and he praised his colleague.

James responded: “Good luck to Maisie, she’s amazing. Of course, she’s going to do to Strictly!”

However, despite Lorraine backtracking from the supposed announcement moments later, saying it was just a rumour, Holly and Phil later confirmed the news on This Morning.

She was joined via video-link by Jamie, who had to pull out of last year’s programme due to sustaining a foot injury in the first group routine of the 2019 series.

Fans of the dance contest soon reacted to the latest announcement on Twitter, with one writing: “Can’t wait to see you on the #Strictly dancefloor @maisie_smith!

Another shared: “I reckon she could be a real contender although I think a few could be this year.”

“First time I’ll watch strictly now Maisie is in it! Congrats,” added a third fan.

A fourth commented: “2020 winner. I called it first! I have been praying for Maisie to be on Strictly for months now!!”

Strictly Come Dancing returns later this year to BBC One.
