Strictly Come Dancing’s Gorka Marquez and Katie McGlynn crashed out of the competition this weekend after finding themselves in the bottom two for a second week in a row. They performed in the dreaded dance-off against Loose Women star Judi Love and her dance partner Graziano Di Prima. However, they weren’t able to do enough to impress the judges and keep their place on the show. Looking back at his partnership with Katie, Gorka addressed some speculation surrounding their training experience.
The duo sadly left the competition during Strictly’s famous Movie Week, after performing a dance themed around the film Cruella.
Katie was dressed as Cruella Devil, while Gorka donned a Dalmatian costume for their America Smooth on Saturday night.
Actress Katie is currently starring in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks and was having to juggle her work commitments with training for Strictly.
As a result, some fans expressed concerns she wasn’t getting enough time to practice her routines with Gorka.
On Tuesday Steph McGovern welcomed Gorka onto her show Steph’s Packed Lunch.
While chatting about his time on Strictly, Steph quizzed the dancer about the speculations.
“Did you feel like you got enough time to train? Was that one of the issues?” Steph asked.
Gorka replied: “Obviously, when you come to the show, the show is very demanding as you know already.
“As many hours you can do the better because there’s so many things you need to think about.
“Especially with someone like Katie who’s never danced before, no dance experience.
“So, not having enough time is a real difficulty. But, you know, even if she had two hours she used to come with positive energy to training.
“Sometimes she used to call me ‘Oh I have a break, can you tell me what to do here?’ And she used to practice on the breaks and everything.
“But, it’s true that not having a lot of time, it’s difficult,” he explained.
He went on to reveal: “You need to practice like eight or 10 hours a day and when you’re filming from seven to seven you really can’t.”
Katie was left “gutted” after being booted off the show, but took to Twitter to thank the programme for all their support.
In a post she said: “Thank you all so much for the support @bbcstrictly, it’s been an honour to be part of such an iconic show and to dance each week with the best partner @gorkamarquez1 – I’m really gutted that my time has come to an end so soon.. but it’s been an absolute dream! #strictly.”
Many people on Twitter praised the actress for managing to fit Strictly in around her everyday work.
Loose Women star Kelle Bryan wrote: “You were brilliant balancing your shoot schedule at Hollyoaks and learning to dance you smashed it babe PROUD OF YOU.”
Katie and Gorka are the second couple to leave the competition this year, after Nina Wadia and Neil Jones were eliminated the week before.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
