Susanna Reid was praised by Good Morning Britain fans who had tuned in on Thursday to watch the live interview with MP Grant Shapps.

The 51-year-old host had taken a no nonsense approach when it came to tackling important issues – such as rising energy costs and the warm homes discount.

Nothing was getting past eagle-eyed Susanna who pointed out that the MP had mentioned the energy cap would "remain in place" – giving off the impression that home costs would not increase.

Susanna chirped in: "When you say the cap remains in place. What you actually mean is the cap is going up?

Mr Shapps attempted to answer the TV star's question, explaining that "no increases had yet been signed off".

Now annoyed, Susanna barked: "Mr Shapps, in what universe is the price cap ever going to come down?"

The discussion became even more heated when a snippet of Prime Minister Boris Johnson flashed up on screens – showing him in the House of Commons advising that the warm homes discount was £140 per week.

Calling out the faux pas, Susanna fumed: "The warm home discount is not £140 per week, the warm home discount is a one off payment over the winter."

"That's right, it's £140 as one off payment, there's a separate payment which is a cold weather payment which also provides an extra £25 a week and that's helping up to 4million people," commented Mr Shapps.

"Was that a lie that Boris Johnson said to the Commons yesterday that it's £140 per week? Because he didn't just say it once, he said it twice"

In response the MP said: What I think he was pointing to is that we're contributing £140 to energy bills for 2.2million low paid and that's what he is referring to.

Interjecting, Susanna added: "He said the warm homes discount was £140 per week, if the warm homes discount was £140 per week that would go a long way to off set the difficulty people have.

"Right so either he lied to the Commons or he doesn't know what help is being given to people who can't pay their energy bills."

Mr Shapps agreed with Susanna that it had been a one off payment but failed to advise on Boris' error.

Fans were so impressed that Susanna had seemingly wiped the floor with the MP that they took to Twitter to hail her interviewing skills.

One person wrote: "Fantastic work @susannareid100 on the price cap clarification. Don’t let him use misleading language to fool us all. I see @grantshapps is being pointing fingers already at OFGEM and their decision making on the cap level! @GMB #GMB."

Another person agreed: "Don’t let @grantshapps get away with brushing off Johnson’s lack of knowledge on the 'Warm Homes Discount'! This energy price crisis is crucial! Good work @susannareid100 and @benshephard @GMB #GMB."

A third tweet read: "I just love @susannareid100. She is absolutely annihilating this idiot on #GMB."

While a fourth penned: "Absolutely love @susannareid100 , she will not let anything go over her head. Which is what we need when interviewing the Govt. Ministers @grantshapps @GMB #GMB."
