The Walking Dead fans will have no problem remembering the first time Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) came face to face with the dead on the AMC series. Way back in the show’s pilot episode, Rick awoke from a comatosed state to find a post-apocalyptic world in which the dead were anything but. Desperate to discover what was going on, Rick stumbled across a young girl (Addy Miller) – although when he tried to talk to her, he was in for quite the shock.

In what is one of the most iconic scenes in The Walking Dead history, Rick had just found an abandoned petrol station, keen to refill his police car’s tank.

Still bemused and unware of what had taken place while he was unconcious, Rick, for all he knew, was the last survivor left on the planet.

So when he heard the footsteps of a young girl, Rick was always going to investigate.

What he was confronted with, however, was the gruesome image of the renimated girl with visibly gory injuries charging towards him.

Rick removed his pistol and this Walker would be the first of hundred kills the TWD hero would rack up.

The moment cemented the horrific world Rick now lived in and set the basis for the drastic measures he’d have to go to for the rest of his tenure on the show.

And while Rick bowed out of the drama nine seasons later, and with the series coming to an end after season 11, actor Miller has teased the iconic Walker may be back for one final outing.

Reacting to the news AMC had decided to call time on the horror series beyond season 11, Miler took to her public Twitter profile.

Responding to the news, Miller first tweeted: “I’m not crying, u are.” (sic)

Before long, fans quickly replied to the actress with their messages of support, but there’s one that caught the eye more than most.

“And you were there at the beginning [crying emoji],” tweeted one fan to the TWD star.

Miller sent the rumour into overdrive by replying: “Okay but imagine if I got to also be the end [eyes emoji.”

Could the TWD star be hinting at a final swansong for one of the show’s most shortlived but iconic characters?

The idea certainly garnered support from Walking Dead fans, with one replying: “And where it all began with you, they definitely need you back for the last episode. Going to start a petition for that now!”

News of the show’s cancellation is one that hit fans and the cast alike, although the TWD universe is billed to live on in a Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) spin-off.

King Ezekiel star Khary Payton issued his own message of disappointment on his Twitter page, commenting: “All good things…”

Carl Grimes legend Chandler Riggs also issued a heartfelt statement: “Truly the end of a legendary era in television.

“I was the biggest fan of the show while I was on it, and will continue to watch until the very end & am so excited to see how it closes.”

Other stars include Norman Reedus, Christian Serratos and Melissa McBride who shared tributes of their own with love heart emojis.

The Walking Dead season 10 concludes on AMC on October 4 and FOX UK on October 5.
