The lucky couple who won the largest ever £184m EuroMillions jackpot last week, have announced how they plan to spend their winnings.

Joe and Jess Thwaite, from Gloucestershire, bagged the record-breaking sum on Tuesday (May 10).

And after finally coming to terms with their life-changing jackpot win, they've decided to tell the world about their money plans.

The couple, who are now the UK's biggest-ever National Lottery winners, revealed their identity at a press conference today (Thursday, May 19).

Jess, 44, who manages the business side of a hairdressing salon she runs with her sister, said: “I don’t want to lie to family and friends, I want to enjoy it with them.

"Maybe, naively, I thought we could tell a few people and it would be fine.

"But the list gets longer and soon you realise it would be a burden asking them to keep it quiet. Telling people makes it easier.”

Their winning EuroMillions numbers were 3, 25, 27, 28 and 29 – plus the Lucky Star numbers 4 and 9.

Jess said winning the lottery is a "huge relief" and said they face normal day struggles like "any other family."

She added: “The win gives us time to dream which we haven’t had before. We’ve had one week to think about this and we now have time to share lots of experiences and go on adventures with our family and friends.

“My dad played The National Lottery all his life and constantly dreamed of winning.

"He would always ask us what we’d do when we won, how we’d spend it, who we’d treat.

"It was a regular conversation and I feel like he was preparing us. Maybe that is why I seem so chilled, as I’ve kind of been ready to win for years.”

Camelot’s Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery, said at the time of the major win: “This is absolutely incredible news! Last night saw history made with the biggest ever National Lottery prize won by a single UK ticket-holder, and we’re ecstatic that we’ve now received a claim.

"Our focus now is on supporting the ticket-holder through the process and helping them start to enjoy their truly life-changing and record-breaking win.”

The £184m win is the second EuroMillions jackpot won in the UK this year after £109million was scooped up in February.

Joe, 49, who is a Communications Sale Engineer, commented: “I have been working hard and then doing DIY on the house and you realise that you are missing out on family time.

"This win gives us time. From 5am each day we are chasing our tails until we go to bed.

"We don’t have money for family days out or holidays and we want to use our good fortune to spend more time together making memories and going on adventures.”

Last year, five UK ticket-holders banked an overwhelming win including one person who scored a £122.5million jackpot prize in April, with another who took home £111 million in June.

But the biggest winners to reveal their scope in public were Frances and Patrick Connolly on New Year's Day in 2019.

The pair, from County Armagh in Northern Ireland, bagged £114,969,775 but Frances recently revealed that she has given away around £60million.

She said: “I get to change people’s lives every day if I want to. Helping other people and doing something to help other people will lift you.

“If you can give to others, whether it’s time or money, it’s really important, it gives you a buzz. It’s addictive. I’m addicted to it now.”
