Bus carrying kids flips on the way to UK school with a number in hospital

    A bus on a school run flipped over with children inside, causing several to be sent to hospital.

    Emergency services including medical personnel were called to the incident in Frome, Somerset, on the B3090 Oldford Hill, arriving at around 3:35pm this afternoon (Nov 28).

    Several passengers were treated by paramedics at the scene, while some were taken to hospital for further assessment – although the exact number of people who were injured has not been revealed.

    None of the people being treated in hospital are believed to have life-threatening injuries, SomersetLive reported.

    Avon and Somerset police said in a statement released on their website: "A number of passengers, including schoolchildren, received minor injuries and were checked over by paramedics at the scene.

    "A small number are being taken to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment or assessment. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening or life-changing."

    Police have said the area is still cordoned off and that the road is likely to be closed for some time.

    Drivers are being urged to avoid the area where possible.

    Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: "Oldford Hill in both directions closed due to accident investigation work between Orchardleigh turn off and Cuckoo Lane. Traffic is coping well.

    "A bus had overturned and investigations are now ongoing, affecting traffic between Frome and Beckington."

    Avon and Somerset Police are now investigating the incident to determine why the bus flipped over.

    Officers are also liaising with the school involved, as well as the parents of the pupils involved in the crash.
