Charlton women’s footballer filmed ‘inhaling from balloon’ let go by club

A Charlton Athletic women's team footballer has had her registration cancelled with the club after separate videos emerged of her appearing to inhale from a balloon at a party before swigging from a champagne bottle while driving her Range Rover.

In the latest controversial videos which were uploaded to Snapchat, seen by the Daily Star, Madelene Wright, 22, is seen at a party with friends where a number of people are inhaling from balloons.

A second video shows the footballer apparently swigging from a champagne bottle while behind the wheel of her flash Range Rover.

After the clips were shared on social media, Charlton Athletic confirmed to the Daily Star Maddie's registration had been cancelled and that she will no longer play for them.

Road safety charity Brake has condemned Maddie's actions as it urged all drivers to "never drink alcohol any amount of alcohol and drive".

A Brake spokesperson told the Daily Star: "Driving and alcohol simply do not mix. When you’re behind the wheel you’re in charge of a potentially lethal weapon which requires full concentration and zero impairment to do so safely.

"We urge all drivers to never drink alcohol any amount of alcohol and drive and certainly never do both at the same time."

Despite leaving Charlton Athletic, the club has said it will continue to have access to the club's support channels if she requires them.

A Charlton Athletic Women's Spokesperson told the Daily Star: "The club were made aware of the video and quickly investigated the incident.

They went on: "The club would like to make clear that although the behaviour is not acceptable, the player's welfare remains important to us and she will still have access to the club's support channels if needed."

Maddie was also investigated by former club Millwall after she filmed from the backseat as a dog drove the car she was in.

Road safety charity Brake described the dog driving footage as "careless".

The Daily Star has also previously reported on how a furious X-rated star says she is fed up of fans confusing her with the female footballer.

Adult actress Katie Loulou told the Daily Star that raunchy snaps of herself were being shared on WhatsApp.

But she says fans are claiming they show Ms Wright and that she has even tried to contact the footballer – only to have been blocked.

Maddie did not respond to the Daily Star's request for comment.
