Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of rape and sexual assault in his latest criminal trial.

The former movie producer is currently serving a 23-year sentence for a rape and sexual assault conviction, having already served two years.

A jury of 12 had reached the verdict at a court in Los Angeles on Monday evening.

Following Weinstein's guilty conviction of rape, forced oral copulation and another count of sexual misconduct, the 70-year-old now faces another 24 years in prison when he is sentenced.

Prosecutors and defence attorneys had no immediate comment on the verdict.

Deputy District Attorney Marlene Martinez said in the prosecution's closing argument: "It is time for the defendant's reign of terror to end,"

"It is time for the kingmaker to be brought to justice."

Despite the guilty verdict, the jury was unable to reach a decision on numerous other counts against Weinstein.

Those charges included Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Weinstein was also acquitted of an allegation of sexual battery made by an unidentified woman.
