An Amazon worker has been dubbed a hero for saving a young woman and her dog from a savage attack by an out-of-control pitbull.

Security footage captured Stephanie Lontz coming to the rescue of 19-year-old Lauren and her dog earlier this month, TMZ reports.

The footage shows the teenager originally petting the pitbull – who was without its owner – which seemed calm, but went into a frenzy when it saw Lauren’s dog and started attacking it.

Lauren picked up her pooch and started screaming for help, as the larger dog was biting and lunging at them.

After several terrifying seconds, Lauren and her dog were only able to escape back into her house thanks to the bravery of Stephanie, who ran from her delivery van and jumped between the woman and the pitbull.

Stephanie only left the scene when Lauren had safely made it back into her house and took the opportunity to tell the pitbull what a “bad dog” it had been.

The Amazon driver claims she was just doing the right thing and thought of her own child when springing into action.

She told the local NBC TV station: "The screams made me think of my own child.

"I would only hope someone would jump in and help her if she was in a similar situation. I wouldn't even think it's motherly, it's just the human thing to do."

Though Stephanie saved Lauren's day, she says Amazon workers go through so much on a normal basis that this sort of thing was not unusual for her.

In fact, she says she herself was bitten by a dog two days prior to this incident.
