A man died from an apparent heart attack while hiking west of Loveland on Sunday.
Rescue crews were called to a section of the Blue Sky Trail, which connects the Devil’s Backbone with Horsetooth Mountain Open Space, on a report of a hiker in need of help, according to information from Loveland Fire Rescue Authority.
The man, the oldest in a group of three, however, died on the trail of an apparent heart attack, officials said.
Crews who responded to the 4:40 p.m. rescue call used their emergency equipment and skills to help carry the man from the trail to a waiting Larimer County Coroner’s vehicle and investigator.
The official cause of death will be released later from the Coroner’s Office.
