A man has been charged with murder following the death of mother of four Kobie Parfitt.
Remains thought to be those belonging to Ms Parfitt were found at the bottom a mineshaft at Snake Valley last week more than six months after 43-year-old vanished from a home on Hickman Street in Ballarat on April 28.
On Wednesday morning, police said officers from the homicide squad have charged a 31-year-old Wendouree man with one count of murder.
He is due to face Melbourne Magistrates Court later today.
Police previously revealed that as part of their investigations officers had searched several properties and interviewed a Mount Clear woman in relation to Ms Parfitt's disappearance.
Investigators also believed that Ms Parfitt may have been murdered on the day she was last seen.
Last week Detective Inspector Stamper said there had been no activity on Ms Parfitt's phone or bank accounts since her disappearance.
He said Ms Parfitt had lived at the Hickman Street residence on and off for some time and had been estranged from her family who she's last seen in March.
