Police officers were stunned to learn a woman was in labour and driving herself to the hospital, after pulling over a suspicious car.
Cops found the heavily pregnant woman after being "concerned" in the early hours of the morning.
A North Yorkshire Police officer had spotted the car and became sceptical.
However, when they opened the car door they discovered a “very heavily pregnant and upset” woman in the driver's seat.
Sharing the account of what happened, PC 870 tweeted : “Stopped a car in the early hours due to minor concerns re manner of driving.
"Very heavily pregnant and upset female in labour trying to get herself to hospital. Of course, we made her car safe and took her to the maternity ward. Not just crime!”
The tweet which has been retweeted by over 100 and has attracted high praise, reports YorkshireLive.
One person said: “Love this. Had a similar job, call received from passerby, 70mph duel road, car pulled over, driver distressed.
"We arrived just as the baby did, mum had driven 40 miles alone and was only 10 minutes away when she had to stop. All safe and well, but she must have been terrified!”
Another person said: “Love our police force, thank you for your service to the community.”
A third user added: “Great work. But so worrying and upsetting that, that poor woman was trying to get to hospital on her own.”
Another person said: "Ah well done. Very vigilant. Good to read something positive."
In a follow-up tweet, the officer added: “I can’t believe how much interest this tweet has had. If I get consent to do so I will get an update to share when I am back on duty.”
